Meritline Disks Work Perfect

the meritline v1 purple disks work perfect on stand alone players..
i used nero 5.5.8.0 the new version no need for imaging and the new pioneer ao4 drive. to burn just perfect
I have done 3 movies and they all work the way it should

They are stuttering at the end of the disc in all Standalnoes i haves tested!

on the sony 5 disk player.. that player couldnt play any cdrs but plays the dvd fine..try burning with nero...
or maybe the pioneer burner i have the a04 burns differently
and i burnt them at 1 x

I've been testing DVDRs for a time as I released my 1st DVD, and needed to find a good compatible media for distribution (didn't want to replicate as I won't sell that many, hehe).

(All burns were done with Prassi PrimoDVD and test on several Pioneer, Panasonic, Phonotrend, Saba, JVC, Shinco players.)

- Apple DVDRs worked fine on all the players I tested.

- Meritline's purple DVDPro (with the writable purple top) worked on
some players, but not on PS2, JVCs and SABAs players I tested.

- Meritline's silvers DVDPro did the same.

- Meritline's own brand blanks worked fine on all players I tested.

I have the JVC-XVS65GD which it's manual states does not play DVD-R.

This player Rox btw and I highly recommend it. Best picture from the 6 or 7 I tested and for around 300 bucks, WOW..

Anyway. I've burned over 20 dvd-rs now most of them for DVD Video and have had not one problem that was media related. The three discs I made into coasters were because I was not mastering correctly.

I think it's basically hit or miss with the cheap media. For movies and things that are easily replacable buy the cheap stuff. If I were going to preserve something like a home video or a wedding, etc., I'd get some good stuff that I know will last and have fewer dropouts.

I have burned over 50 Meritline brand DVD-R's now. The ones with the silver top, and dark purple bottom. I have never had any problems yet on any of them. And yes I check the end of my movies to see if they skip, and the answer is no. Don't get these confused with the crappy media they offer as well from their website. White tops with very little purple die on the bottom. These disks are crap, I ordered 100 of them, and shipped them all back. Also white topped Princo with very little purple die are crap too. Avoid these. The Meritline dark purple disks have been the best value for me. I have tested them with PS2, both Video and Game, and no problems yet. Also have tested these on several stand alones with no problems.

Ok. So right after posting about my meritline disks I get burned.

I re-authored Vanilla Sky to fit on one disk.

Burned it, played fine until about 40 minutes in and then started to dropout, breakup, get blocky, etc..

Burned another. Same problems but in different parts of the movie.

Burned ANOTHER. Same problems but in different parts.

All three play perfect in the dvd burner. PERFECT.

I'm using a JVX-S65GD which has caused me no problems with playing dvd-r's/

Ordered 10 Verbatims. Hopefully this will fix the problem

Meritline sells several different disks, which kind did you use?

Yes, use these ones, http://www.meritline.com/47dvdisgenpu1.html they work great, no problems after 50 burns here. I have gotten some that my DVD burner didn't recognize as a blank disk, but Meritline is pretty good about exchanging them for new ones.

Got the verbatims and that took care of the problem.

Not a single dropout or pixelation with the new burn..

Gonna try the meritline brand ones now that I know it was the dvdpro media that was the problem.

btw.. do these discs burn at 1x or 2x speed for you? so far I've only been able to burn at 1x using Meritline's own discs, DVDPro (interestingly mine have a purple top though I ordered them a while back) and Meritline Silver DVD-Rs (not being sold anymore).

They only burn at 1x for me......... Then again I only have a 1x burner :D

hi fellas.. i recently purchased 10 Meritline brand named discs.. the three i have done work fine for me but i recommend burning them at 1x and not 2x...it will take a little longer but you will not getting any audio pauses... these are the Meritline discs with the DARK purple bottom.. they work well and i will order more :) later

hmm... I think we should start mentioning the actual disc manufacturer (advdinfo, option 0E).. I have tested 1 meritline dark purple (ritekg03), 1 meritline silver (tdkg01) and 1 dvdpro disc (tdkg01).. they all had breakups and skips on my standalone.. so did the dvdpro rws fro meritline.. finally I tried with a verbatim dvd-rw which worked without glitches so I conclude that my player can play recordable DVDs after all (today I?ll be testing 2 brands of DVD-Rs). I'm going to add these discs to the list shortly and mention that we need one more piece of info..

I think in some cases, the standalone player is at fault.

My Sony DVD 530D sucks. It always skips and has problems towards the end of all disks, regardless of brand. I noticed this happens when I record more than 4 gigs on a disk.

SO I got a cheap Oritron DVD600, and guess what. it doesn't have any problems at all playing the last chapter! I've used it to watch a couple of movies now and its been great! no dropouts, no skips nothing! I'm also using the cheap Meritline media white top with purple bottom. Someone said those suck? SO far i've had no problems playing them back on my Oritron. even the Sony plays them as long as I stick to below 4.0 gigs

I used the Meritline 'No Name' DVD+R discs (those they sell in 25pieces). I burned also around 50 of them and they all work perfectly on my standalone Pioneer 747A so I can only recommend them. Verbatim's are also perfect thus also a bit more expensive ($5.50 being the cheapest DVD+R I found so far).

I agree that the player has something to do with this.. cheap and no major brand players often use the same drives that we find in today's pcs (probably last generation but still).. these drives are much better reading hard to read discs than some of drives that major brand manufacturers use... it would be really interesting to see what happens if you switch the drive in such a case.. though while this may be doable for players like apex I doubt you can do it with major brand players as well.

the meritline ones i am talking about are the ritek ones..i havent had any probs..i recommend those :)

I bought a stack of DVD-RW's from Meritline...

DvdPro DVD-RW 4.7GB Media DPO-DVDRW4.7-025 1 47.25

They work the first couple of times, but after 5-6 burn/erase cycles they start to break down. My A04 says 'burn completed successfully'. When I play it, even in the Pioneer A04, it gets pixelated, and eventually hangs PowerDvd.

Sure, they 'only' cost $1.48/Each, but if they break down this quick, it may be 'penny wise, pound foolish'. I'm starting to think it makes more sense to buy the Meritline DVD-RW's that cost $3.29/each. Hopefully they will last through as many cycles as they claim. Does anyone have any experience with these?

I'm going to get some of the meritline branded discs and try them out. I don't use dvd-rw's too often.
