View Full Version : Dark City AC3 to MP3 Problem

CFL

When I encode from the AC3 file to MP3 using the latest Besweet and doom9's guide, the finished file is 108mb, but there is no audio (or it is too quiet for the human ear to hear). I think the problem lies in the gain its at -67.5db!! Can anybody help me out with this prob

i believe that's a bug. i'll check it out !
in the meantime, you can uncheck the "PostGain" checkbox at the gui, and try again.

hmmm.. i don't see the problem in here.
can you tell me what are the dll versions that was used ? (BeSweet displays it on start).

what was the gain-value when transcoding without postgain ?

CFL

-68.3 - I will try and encode with an earlier version of besweet.
Also when trying to listen to the ac3 through powerdvd, PowerDVD takes a long time to load up the AC3 maybe there is something wrong with the actual AC3 file or it has been ripped wrong

i'm not sure if this is any help or not, but take a look at the filename of the ac3 file there in the log...

darkcity AC3 T01 2_0ch 448Kbps DELAY 0ms.ac3

448 kbps for a two-channel ac3? is this right? i haven't ripped that many dvds, but all the dolby surround movies i've seen have been 192, with 448 only for certain 5.1 tracks. also, imdb's dvd details show the only 2.0 tracks on this dvd being commentary. maybe the filename was wrong and so besweet was somehow tricked into thinking it was only 2.0 when it was actually 5.1.

i actually plan on doing dark city myself soon, so maybe i can test this directly myself if it's not resolved by then.

I used besweet 1.2 and it worked fine, not wanting to say that there is a bug with the latest besweet because i do not know what the problem is. Also I am stuck in the UK our version of dark city is rubbish, no commentry, just 2 channel AC3 at 448. Thanks for the pointers its appreciated.

I used an older method of encoding, so the log file is slightly different

it seems that the last frames of this AC3 stream are fucked up.

Yeah I think its the actual DVD. At the start of the AC3 it makes a crazy sound (difficult to explain), only happens for a few milliseconds, it like it was mastered wrong or something? This is the second time i have backed up 'Dark City' UK PAL region 2 and the sound at the start was there the first time around as well. Just searched through the avi and I do not notice anything wrong at the end (I do not listen to the credits music anyway. Do you?).

Anyway I got AC3 to MP3 using your great program DSPguru. You seem a bit pissed off. I did not post on the forum to moan at you or anyone else, just to get a bit of help. Keep up the good work.

hehe, i'm not pissed off :). i'm surprised.
anyway, i believe that -ota( -g max ) would bring you best result also with v1.3b9.
as a conclusion from your post, i will add a check for the negative gain value, in order to make sure they won't be asserted.

Cheers,
