I've aalways had good luck with cd-recordables media but it would only burn @1x until this new batch I just got. Previoulsy Prassi would indicate 2x but would take about an hour to burn.

So...Updated the Prassi engine and this new batch burns @2x. takes less than 30 minutes. Not sure if it was the engine update or cd-recordables has done something to the media to make the Pioneer drive thinks it's verified for 2x.

Sent cd-recordables an e-mail asking them if they changed anything but no response yet. I can't be the only one getting lucky here.

Anyone else verify this?

No joy.

My burn has been running for 30 minutes and is currently at 50%. I'm burning at 1x. Config is below:

Prassi 2.0.749 PxEngine Upgrade 3.11
Pioneer A03: Firmware 1.68

I will try upgrading to PxEngine 3.20 and see what happens. Then I'll try Firmware 1.80. I'm not hopeful though. 1x is okay for most of what I do -- but I'd sure like to have seen 2x.

jdobbs,

Wonder, then if it's the engine upgrade that did it for me. I also noticed that on one of the order pages from cd-recordable, it asks what equipment you're using. I filled in A03 there and indicated video file burning also.

I've now done 4 so far and all have burned @2x (~30 min). I checked same file with a disk from judysdeals and it takes about 55 minutes with the new Prassi engine.

But...maybe the engine update will do it for you. I know that without it, I couldn't burn TDK (certified for 2x) @2X without the upgrade.

RichR,

What firmware version are you running?

Jdobbs,

Upgraded to 3.20 engine -- no go.
Upgraded to 1.80 firmware -- same, same.

I can say definitely that the shipment I received on Friday does NOT support 2x writing on the A03... Prassi SAYS it's burning at 2x -- but the stopwatch doesn't lie.

Who knows, maybe they shipped me an old lot. RichR sounds like he clocked them pretty well and confirmed it by taking longer on another brand.

I still like these discs, though. They've never failed for me. I usually burn a movie while I'm doing something else, so I wouldn't notice the difference between 30 minutes and an hour anyway.

Oh well...
