As I stated before in other posts, I had burnt 33 dvds with what I thought to be 100% success rate. But it turned out they only worked on my pc, and ps2, some on the xbox. I've worked around that with the help of other members here, so I decided to post my tests, hoping that it will help somebody else:

In all the following tests, I used DVDDECRYPTER, IFOEDIT, (REMPEG, if needed). I also put the empty AUDIO_TS folder in all of them, and both AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder were capitalized.

Test #1: used B's Recorder Gold v3.04 to drag and drop the empty audio_ts folder and the video_ts folder. I also set all the settings accordingly to the guide in Derrow's website. (This is the method that I burned those 33 dvds in).

Result (Playability):
Playstation 2 (yes, except for the ones transcoded with ReMPEG);
PC (yes); Xbox (some of them, sometimes); Standalones (no)

Test #2: used B's Recorder Gold v3.19 to drag and drop the empty audio_ts folder and the video_ts folder. I also set all the settings accordingly to the guide in Derrow's website.

Result (Playability):
Playstation 2 (yes, except for the ones transcoded with ReMPEG);
PC (yes); Xbox (some of them, sometimes); Standalones (no)

Test #3: used MyDvd to author some home movies that I had, and burned it with B's Recorder Gold v3.04.

Result (Playability):
Playstation 2 (yes); PC (yes); Xbox (yes); Standalones (yes)

Test #4: used B's Recorder Gold v3.19 to drag and drop the image file, and then burned it. (i never thought it was gonna work)

Result (Playability):
Playstation 2 (no); PC (no); Xbox (no); Standalones (no)

Test #5: used RecordNow Max to burn the image file accordingly to the guide in Derrow's site.

Result (Playability):
Playstation 2 (yes); PC (yes); Xbox (yes); Standalones (yes)

Note: I'm gonna keep using the method indicated in step 5, as stated it worked well the first time, I'll post results later.

Hi...........

Glad you found a system that works, i was interested to find out, if you are ripping the whole movie with extra`s, or just the movie?, if your ripping just the movie, using DvD Decrypter, are u then using Vobarator?, to take out parts of the movie which are not needed?.:confused:

Hmm, I get different results from using B's Recorder 3.19. I haven't yet failed with it to play the DVDs that I burned with it. I always either author my DVDs with DVD Maestro and burn with B's Recorder or rip the entire DVD to HD with Smart Ripper and burn the *.vobs and it's folders with B's Recorder (DVD-5 only of course). All of my DVDs play on my PS2, Pioneer 525, Pioneer 444, Pioneer car DVD player AVIC H-09, and my friends Sony DVPS-7700 & Sony DVP-9000. I also make/sell wedding videos for hobby/part time job and I have never had a customer complain that they were not able to play the DVD back on their DVD players. All DVD-R medias I use are either Pioneer or Apple media and using a Pioneer A03 drive. Before I started using B's Recorder I've had some pretty bad burns with Nero where they wouldn't play on some standalones.

YamR6, no I'm not using vobrator, whenever a movie is over 4.35 gig, I reencode it with ReMPEG2

i have encountered a similar problem, but how did you create the image, usinging ifoedit's image (where it creates a virtual drive) or some other type of software?

please reply

Rob,

To create an image, you will need to download an application called "Imgtool".

This can be done via doom9.net.

Go > download>Vob Tools> show me more

The file you are looking for is :- imgtool.dll

When you install it, it MUST be in the same directory as Ifoedit.

...and for those of you who don't (want to) use B's Recorder software to burn the image files created with your authoring software or ImgTools you could just give DVD Decrypter 3.1.1.0 (yes, it writes image files, too) a try. It works perfect for me.

Hey there,

I am sorry if I sound like a beginer but that is what I am. I have been struggling for a few weeks on backing up my first dvd. I am have tried so many different methods but have not found one yet that works great for me. I was told by someone else to ripp my dvd using Smartripper. then use DVD to AVI to create a .d2v file and keep the .ac3 file. Then remane the .d2v file to .m2v and use Imgtools to create a image and burn with either Nero or another burning software. but I am still a bit lost. First can't I just ripp using Smartripper and demux video and audio. then that gives me a .m2v file and a .ac3 file. Then load into Imgtools and create dvd image. If this should wwork how do I use Imgtools. I am a bit lost.

Oops posted before I was finished. Hit the wrong button. One other question. If I ripp with Smartripper and rip just the vob files of the movie using the movie mode and it is under 4.3 gigs can I just then use Nero to burn the vobs. If so what files do i need to burn? Thanks a lot for your help.

blindy007,
sounding like or being a beginner is not a problem; everyone of us started that way. But you (no offense!) sound like not having read the really fine guides on creating/backing up your own DVDs that doom9 wrote and published on his web site at http://www.doom9.org.
I really recommend that you read them as often as neccessary and start out with an easy project (no re-encoding, just the movie, no extras,...) before proceeding.
