View Full Version : What all is MPEG2DEC.DLL used for?

I'm only aware of it being used to frameserve DVD2AVI .d2v projects to Avisynth.

Is it also used by other common utilities for anything in other ways?

If I'm changing it then I probably should know the implications. For instance there is not much point in making it resize just for Avisynth but if other applications were using it that did not have a resize available then it would be a good idea.

So, who else uses it?

AFAIK only for the purpose you decribed trbarry, is frameserving from DVD2AVI into AviSynth. I seem to remember the guy writing it showed up one day in Dividee's AVISynth forums, but i cant remember his user name ...

BTW : the old link where to get mpeg2dec.dll was http://me.in-berlin.de/~faphida/index.html ( found in my oooold archives :D ) ... but i hate to say its dead now .. maybe this can help to find out where the author has gone and if there are any other purposes its serving ?

Thanks. I've got a P4 optimzed/properly cropping vesion that I've been discussion in the DVD2AVI forum a bit.

Unless someone tells me differently I'm going to assume that no one cares what happens to this execpt the Avisynth users.

To avoid being scolded for cross posting I'll wait a few days and then also ask in the Avisynth forum. I'm not even sure who usually maintains this anymore.

Well, avisynth IS a frameserver, so it's only used for that.

I use it for filtering and encoding my TV rips (MJPEG) as well. (Ok, I still wait for dividee to add scene change detection to temporal smoother.. ;) ) Erm, and I'm frameserving to vdub as well...
But still I like that it stays in YUV colour space (if you don't tell it otherwise).

i hope that's another hint on usage as well.

Yes, thanks. But those are still (I think) only Avisynth uses, right?

I know Avisynth can frameserve to most anything that reads avi's. But I'm trying to make sure that mpeg2dec.dll is used only for passing records to Avisynth, based upon a d2v file written by DVD2AVI.

That way I won't change it and add some nifty new feature and next week be yelled at "Hey, Tom, how come I can't frame serve waffles to my toaster anymore!".

Or some such. ;)

I use DVD2AVI and Virtual Dub in frameserve mode. I scanned my system for that file and came up empty.
