ok background is that i use tmpgenc to encode my vcd's for playback on a 32 inch 16:9 widescreen tv so when i go to the clip frame i select full screen and end up with lovely full screen films

my problem has come about with the recently d/l training day dvd rip which is in some form of super widescreen (think its called anamorphic ratio 2.35:1 i think )and as a result im getting coneheads

so what can i do - is there a template/program in existance that i can use for adding a nice little black bar to the top and bottom of the picture or some other neat trick someones been using for ages which they would like to share

as there seem to be more films using this format i would like to get this sorted in my head

thanks guys

You could do it in tmpgenc or avisynth ... adding borders, that is. But then you'd have to reencode. And that would be a darn shame. I guess there isn't a button on your remote to go to a wider screen ? Reason I ask is that my TV (4:3) does have one.

sorry

I think the solution is to encode to 4:3 with letterboxing (i.e. black bars). Then switch to 16:9 mode on your TV set (mine allows for 4:3, 14:9, 16:9, and some stretching modes). The 4:3, 14:9, and 16:9 modes don't change the aspect ratio, so if you switch to 16:9 only the black bars will be cropped.

SVCDs with DAR 16:9 don't work on my good old Yamakawa DVD player. As far as I know (S)VCDs support 4:3 only.

yeah thanks guys tv is actually a 32 inch widescreen - doesnt allow for any further left/right stretching
when i have created as a 1to1 with black bars at top and bottom and played it it has just resulted in stretching the picture wider still

havent tried 4:3 so might give that a go - thanks

teach me to pay less than a grand for a tv LOL
