There is also a tool available called AviSplitCalc.

Unfortunately the Nandub method is not accurate. The best tool I discovered is AviSplit (formerly known as SplitCalc), which has a "split half size" option in its newest version. It can split with a single mouse click using Nandub (but not Nandub's internal "goto last keyframe" function).

Because you need to split at a keyframe, the files can't be split into exact halves. There will be a one or two MB deviation.

My experience concerning the different versions of AviSplit: The last version didn't work on Win2000, although it worked fine on WinXP. Thus I use the previous version (the one with the smiley icon) on my Win2000 PC. That one does not have the "split into halves" option, but you can choose the desired filesize manually, of course.

Many thanks to the author of AviSplit; it's a tool I was looking for for a long time.

Hi Micro@Dee,

yes, the one with the XP flag icon refused to work on my Win2000 Pro machine. I'd appreciate your recompile (where can I download it?).

A great tool, btw.

Hi folks ... good news ...

weīre proud to tell you that a new AviSplitCalc-Version is in progress...

called : AviSplitCalc 4.0

great new features like the: The AviSplitCalc-Visualizer:

- Now you can SHOW and HEAR your Splitpoints to make an individual cut with
an implemented MediaPlayer (no more cuts in a dialogue) :o))
- A Keyframe - Slider for a very fast KeyFrame-Sliding through the movie.
- Realtime-Fields for fast entering Frames and Keyframes.
- A Burst-Mode for very fast Frame-Access
- Realtime calculated filesize for all parts.
- Very easy handled buttons like "play to selected splitpoint and hold on",
"play at selected splitpoint"
- Playback-Speed-Control : 1/8x - 3x (with Audioplayback)
- Fullscreen-Support
- TV-Output-Support

- rollback few second/keyframes on the second part etc. of an avi film....
- NanDub- and VirtualDub-Support (some people asked us.)

But we need you in supporting us... Please help us in different ways:

We need Beta-Tester,
we need Manual-Writer
and we need a little support in money. Spend us for our hard work
1Euro, 2Euro... What you want. We had to pay for some new components.
Thatīs why we ask... But remember: AviSplitCalc will be ever freeware.

nandub splits perfectly
(to nearest keyframe less than size u specify)

U only get size errors if the sound is not
already muxed.......but in this case it is.

Avisplit is a pile of buggy pooh!

@sarahjh69: I think youīre talking crap ... you donīt know how much work is spent in this piece of software. Maybe you can make it better, but I doubt!

So ... get a life!

GeneX

sarahjh69: Why buggy?

1st: Nandub can only handle 1 Splitpoint
2nd: AviSplitCalc is never touching a AviFile. Read only!
3rd: AviSplitCalc is using NanDub!

quote from bb...second post in this thread

"My experience concerning the different versions of AviSplit: The last version didn't work on Win2000"

and therefore can be called "buggy"

Microdee
no need to be offensive!
no-one cares how much work goes into a piece
of shareware......if it don't do the job!!

PPs GeneX
why are you developing what must be considered as 'Legacy software'
dvd recorders are now at Ģ200, DVD-rw at 89p
I have to pay 15p for quality cdr.....6 x 15 = 90p
so DVD-rw is already cheaper than CDr and at about this
time next year, I suspect everyone will be using DVD recordable of some sort...........splitting avis is becoming a thing of the past!
Is there any use for AviSplit.....Nandub does the job at the moment
why not spend your time on something new and innovative????

thatīs why we need response ...

but really, i canīt reproduce your problem.
now iīve tested it on a P1 160MHz Win98se
without Problems!

And MicroDee says that he is using Win2000.
without problems of course...

I hope you mean with Win2000 the "professional" - Version
and not the buggiest WinME-Version. :D

And by the way: Our tool is not shareware, itīs freeware.

Sorry for the offense ... but I hate people who are inobjective.

Not everyone buys a recorder at this early state.

And do you think splitting is not needed only because you can put 4.7gb on one disc?!

@sarahjh69

If you don't like it don't use it !
If you want to use it and you find it buggy then report your bug to the author.
Like GeneX said it's freeware, they do what they want with it even if you don't like that !

What about sharing your new and innovative ideas ?

sarahjh69:
i understand your opinion ...
btw: i already use a dvd-recorder... and i
burned the movie from stephen king "red rose" (4 hours) on a dvd.(total filesize: 4.2GB).
At least i had to split it into 3 Parts DIVX 1.4GB.

I was very angry that the biggest filesize on an dvd-iso
is limited to 2GB...
so i had to split the movie into 3 pieces

and thats the point! splitting is needed ...:sly:

My above mentioned post was from April. A lot of work has been done in the meantime. I wanted to point out that I like this tool very much, and I use it very often.

Best wishes to the authors; please continue your work. I can't wait to try AviSplitCalc 4.0!
