After many attempts to encode a DVD I have to ask what is it that I’m doing wrong! I have read and set DVD2SVCD as in the newbie reference guide and the DVD2SVCD guide. My system is win98, 1ghz PIII with 384ram, 13ghz & 60ghz HDD’s. Using ‘The Exorcist’ DVD as my source disc, 117 minutes in length to copy to 2 x 80min CD’s. The program rips to the vob files, encodes the audio and completes the vaf file and starts the CCE encoding process but hangs the PC after about 7/8 hours of running. If I have MS System Monitor running at the same time as ripping then Unused Physical memory is at zero % Processor Usage is 100% and Allocated Memory is 100% which indicate that the PC is ruuning at full load! I can complete the process if I only convert half the DVD disc, by only picking half the chapters and running the process twice. I have run DVD2SVCD using Idle, Normal and High on the Misc. tab and with and without ‘Safe mode (VAFPI slow)’ on the Encoder tab but all with the same result of the PC hanging after 7/8 hours. I can rip DVD’s using ‘cladMdec, DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc but as you know the end result is not what can be got with DVD2SVCD. I did manage to complete the disc by using the crash recovery but the end result was not good with pixelation of some of the chapters. Log text file is also given below. This time crash recovery did not work, it reported a missmatch error. Any ideas?

The CCE freeze issue is known and not uncommon. Here is a link to a search I did for CCE freeze:
http://forum.doom9.org/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=78216&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending

Didn't try to search for CCE crash yet.
Have you tried the CCE stress test yet from the advanced forum?
Have you run the Prime95 Torture test?

CCE freezing is an indication there is a problem with the computer. It very well maybe minor and most programs do not have issues with these minor errors, but CCE does. Your computer could seem 100% perfect and CCE can still freeze/crash. Some people are just not able to use CCE. This is the main reason support for TMPG was added.

Have you tried using CCE 2.62 under safe mode?
Have you tried other DVD's? Sometimes the movie has been known to be the problem.

My advice to you is try the stuff I mentioned and search and read the forum for the tons of info and things to try already posted.

384MB RAM. you have a 256 and 128 chip installed? Take out the 128MB chip and do the Indian Rain Dance.

If you go to the Advanced forum you can find some settings in there for the TMPGEnc that give very good results. I cant really tell the diff from a TMPG and a CCE encode, other then the encoded by CCE thing on the bottom. Give that a try and see if you can encode the whole movie.
