View Full Version : problem with i-author

Hi!

I can't seem to create any subtitles in i-author. I have downloaded and tried the vcdhelp-sample and it works great, so my dvd-player supports switchable subtitles.

I create i-author .txt files with maestroSBT, save the output file as .ps, and burn it with nero. The movie plays great on the dvd, but there's no subtitles!

During the muxing i get an error message which says "found a a/v out of synch data sequence". Is it possible that the problem lies there ? I have tried to lower the audiobitrate, and also muxed without any audio-source.

Can someone please help me?

It's difficult to say. May be your player supports Philips (SVCD) instead of CVD (I-Author) subtitles? If that's the case, you should use submux instead (comes with TSCV). I-Author is a very weak program... it crashes a LOT...

Thanks guillep2k for answering =)

I have tried submux but it doesn't accept the .srt files i try to mux. Is there any other way to add subtitles to an mpeg-2 file (or avi file) ? I would prefer switchable subtitles but permanent subtitles will be ok. I just don't want any quality loss in the output svcd because of the subtitles.

I have tried to frameserve with VirtualDub into TMPEGEnc but the quality of the output file is just too bad with that method.

Thankful for all replies.

I have tried submux but it doesn't accept the .srt files i try to mux.Yeah... but I-Author doesn't accept srt files either! ;)

You need a few more steps to do that:

1) Convert the .SRT file to .SSA version 4 (several tools do that).

2) Create a .sub + .bmp file set with MaestroSBT.

I hope this helps!

I found an error in the graphic library I'm using for MaestroSBT that causes I-Author to fail reading the bitmaps (it's actually a bug in I-Author). I'll have a fixed version in a couple of days (I didn't write the library, so I asked the guy to fix it). This seems to be the seed of all evil. Check Doom9's news (http://www.doom9.org/) these days for the forthcoming version of MaestroSBT.
