model SD-M1612-TA.

Is this one of the Toshiba's that can't rip CSS'd discs faster then 2x? If so, it's a waste of money obviously. If not, I want it(!) Can anyone provide insight?

toshiba sdm1612:
7-16x - not encrypted single layer disc
5-9x - not encrypted dual layer disc
2-5x - encrypted dual layer disc
2-5x - encrypted single layer disc

but maybe the sdm1612-ta is different

what do you mean - the info of the ripping speeds (this was only a test from me) or the difference between the sdm1612/sdm1612-ta ? (also cant find info about that :( )

the difference between the regular and the -ta. i'm wondering if they say anywhere that the speed is limited for CSS encrypted ripping. 'cause then i could read the same doc about the -ta. (if there is one). I figure they must somewhere, it'd be deceptive if they don't. but that doesn't mean they do of course...

I think this is a lost cause. On the website they only have the regular one listed (no -TA), but you can clearly read in the docs that its speed is limited for CSS disks. I guess if they don't have a -ta specific doc on that it's the same situation.
