Hi All,

I have WinXp with ASPI ver 4.70 with Creative Dxr2 card + DVD ROM + DVD2SVCD 1.0.7 b4update.
Following the DVD2SVCD guide i notice that the screen shots are coming from a WInXP install.

After all settings are set on DVD2SVCD and you press 'GO' it tries to read the CD to start ripping, it hangs on Video Testing. I can insert any DVD movie and my system plays it, but it fails to scan the DVD when trying to RIP. Anyone with ideas why it does this?

I want to USE WinXP as it takes over 17hrs to rip in Win98, does any other OS speed things up?
I know WinXP does not come with an ASPI layer, IS ASPI required to rip CD's from an ATAPI DVDROM? What version of ASPI is the most reliable for WinXP? Does WinXp need any special tweaking?

Thanks
Morci

Hi morci,

if D2S hangs during the ripping step then it can't properly authenticate the DVD even with the ASPI layer installed.

Start WinDVD or PowerDVD and play he movie - the best thing is to use the slider and scroll through the whole movie so every VOB gets authenticated properly then close the software player.

Start D2S and try again using the internal routines. If that will also fail you can try to rip the VOB files with DVD Decrypter available on Doom9 and then just re-rip these VOB with D2S' internal routines (see Q&A on that)

With WinXP I cannot be of any help as I only use Win2k but I also have the 4.70 Adaptec ASPI installed and it works perfect so far.

Greetings,
Gerti

I've had very good luck with smartripper if dvd2svcd fails.

I have used Win98, Win2K and WinXP, all on the same machine and there is very little difference in speed.

What version of ASPI is the most reliable for WinXP?

I have used the ASPI Version 4.60 on both Win2K and WinXP without any problems.

Does WinXp need any special tweaking?

I did very little to tweak the standard installation of XP on my machine and DVD2SVCD runs flawlessly.

@morci has your problem been fixed? I'm just wondering since you haven't said either way.

Hi chainsaw135
I have just got forceaspi from Doom Site, i will try tonight (Australia Time) and advise of outcome. I also found a thread by markb saying that the DVD needs to be 'authenticated' first. I will
1) install forceaspi
2) if above does not work - run player 1st then try ripping

Thanks chainsaw135

There are references in PDF format already created and linked to in the Q + A. It is not the Q + A itself, but a more complete reference guide. It is split into new and adavanced.

As for Authenticating the DVD. DVD2SVCD usually does a good job of this already, but there are times when it does not. All you need to do is play the movie in a software DVD player for a short period of time, put it on pause, start the DVD2SVCD rip and then you can close it.
