View Full Version : Rip now, process later

Hi again, (grasshopper here..)

I read the following on the Q&A area for newbies...

Q47: I just borrowed x number of DVDs and I just want to rip them. I want to process the ripped vob files later?
A: Just start DVD2SVCD as normal. Activate internal ripping. When DVD2SVCD starts ripping the first vob file, press the X upper right corner (close) and answer YES, to close DVD2SVCD. DVD2SVCD will finish the ripping and when it's done it'll close the program. When you're ready to process the ripped vob files, disable the ripping.

My questions are: I assume "Activate internal ripping" means the same as "use internal routienes", correct?

What files should I end up with for converting later? I know the .vob files should be there, what else?

I started a rip and clicked on the X and chose YES to close DVD2SVCD.
My ripped files did not include an .IFO file. I'm a little dense on how to start the routiene. I read about copying a .IFO file and renaming the .vob files but no success. Sooo.. would someone as it were.. "draw a picture for me". I'd really like to rip and convert later but I think I hosed the first attempt.

The other night I converted the movie ID4 and it worked great.

Thank you again, DT98

Hi DT98,

you should at least have all the VOB files and the corresponding IFO file. But if you rip with the internal routines this should usually be the case.

I always rip with the internal routines and process the files later following the Q47 instructions and always end up with the VOBs and the IFO in the folder - so that's a little weird.

Perhaps you should try to set your default output folder in D2S again and do the process once again.

Greetings,
Gerti

Just out of curiosity - what functionality is being added in this department?

Thanks Gerti, Franksta,

It seems there was a problem with the rip or I misplaced the ifo file.
I'll give this a try again and see what happens.

I'm looking forward to the next release of DVD2SVCD!

Best regards,

Once I rip the DVD to Hard Disk and I start D2S again and disable DVD ripping, since I already ripped to HD using internal routines in my earlier session. Now if I click on the movie length, I don't get the popup where I can select Chapters that I want to encode?

sure you can get the chapter select again if the vobs are already on your hd. Just need to enable dvd ripping again and rip them from the hd to another directory.
