Now, don't get me wrong. I really like DVD2SVCD. It just that some DVDs refuse to give in to it...

One example is Planet Of The Apes (R2, French authored). I ripped it using internal routines, and DVD2SVCD could only find the French subtitles, even though I had Greek selected. Whatsmore, DVD2SVCD soon crashed while trying to extract them (French subtitles). I tried with Vstrip, same thing happens. Hmmmm, me thinks, let's try SmartRipper.

So, I rip the DVD to disk using SmartRipper, choosing only English soundtrack and Greek subtitles in Stream Proccessing. Then I started DVD2SVCD and pointed it to the ripped files and everything went fine! Greek subs where found and extracted, no crashes, no trouble. Planet Of The Apes conquered!

I use SmartRipper to rip DVDs ever since and then use DVD2SVCD and never had any trouble again. But I'm puzzled as to why this might be happenning.

Any comments? Cheers to all.

It's a good thing you solved your problem trying an alternative way. Just for the record I want to mention dvd2svcd internal routines is still the preferred way to go as it has solved many people's problems in the past.

Well people's problems with the first chapter, but for subtitles that's odd. Only problem I've had with DVD2SVCD is if I rip with Smartripper and try to use DVD2SVCD. So if it works for you, don't argue it.

Always use Internal Routines, then VStrip

But interestingly, today, I got this scratched Pearl Harbor DVD.

I tried to copy VOB files and IFO using internal routines, it gave up, so did VStrip.

I tried DVD Decrypter it gave me CRC error on disk and I was about to give up. I tried SmartRipper and it was able to copy the DVD to my harddrive without any error. Not to mention, my first time to use SmartRipper ;)

I used to rip using Internal Routines till I came across the subtitle problem. Internal DVD2SVCD ripping never failed to rip any disc, even tired ones or French made.

Most French authored discs I have tried, cause problems after ripping. I have come to the conclusion that they are either non-compliant or just bad-authored. DVD2SVCD rips them OK but gets confused later, even if no subtitles are to be processed (tried this yesterday) and stops with an error message (which I can't recall). I guess what SmartRipper Stream Proccessing does is "straighten" or "fix" the VOBs somehow?

Well, if it works don't argue it indeed, to quote Faceman101! I'm just curious if anyone had this problem too and if DVD2SVCD has any comments on this.
