well ok. i used guy with alt-preset abr 128kbps. there was no real reduction of teh filesize. still 96mb. is there such an alt-preset for vbr too ?
and a question about OGG:
what quality parameters do you guys use for 1 and 2 CDs ? i mean in mp3 i use 128 and 160kbps, but since OGG is different in quality i need to know what i can use for 1cd and 2cds.

there aRe vbr presets, but they'll create even bigger filesizes.
check the left bottom corner of "lame 1" at the latest BeSweetGUI.

At this low a bitrate, you will get better quality using ABR with LAME.

I use 0 for 1CD and 4.99 for 2CDs, but YMMV.

*sigh* we really need to start a Vorbis FAQ it seems:D
Dg,
Shall I start basic FAQ or can we just add it the Audio FAQ?
Edit-
@mrbungle
q0 - q0.2 should work fine for your 1CD needs. For 2CDs I just use the AC3 but something like q4.99 or q5 will be fine if you want Vorbis.
How much space would you save by doing q0 and q4.99? If it is only 20mb I would stick with 4.99

i use 4.99 for everything. basically, i figure if the video's bad in any way, i can just sit farther from the screen or maybe squint a little. ;) but if the audio sounds bad, aside from maybe turning on a vacuum cleaner or something next to the speaker there's not much you can do to not notice it. i dunno, i always find it odd that people will encode a movie several times to get it as close to indistinguishable from the original as possible, but then go and crank out a q0 vorbis file. maybe it's not unlistenable, but then why not go and make the video 200 MB as long as we're going for the minimum? i dunno, i've just always felt like the audio in a movie is just as important as the video for pulling you into the experience, but maybe that's just me.
edit: i think q4.9 is generally around 120 kbps, whereas q0 is more like 64. so you're saving like 60 kbps, more or less, but you're cutting the audio in half. if you cut 60 kbps from the video, you're probably taking 10% off it at the very most. so it's a disproportionate amount to be chopping off the audio part of the movie, i think.

hmm i dont understand what you all mean by 4.99 ? i am using BeSweet GUI and quality goes from 0.0 to 1.0 there and 1.0 is 477kbps ?! so do you mean 0.499 ?

@davenger
you should put more time in developing rather than avenging, it's much more efficient.

well what if i want to have an VBR MP3 160kbps using Besweet. since there is no alt-preset for VBR, what to enter for VBR Quality/Routine and min/max allowed bitrate ?
DSPguru

THERE IS !
try alt-preset standard, for instace. (although it could get up to 200kbps).
and why VBR ? you could use --alt-preset 160.
