View Full Version : IFOEdit image creation tool creating bad images?

I recently created a movie using the IFOEdit/CCE method, which resulted in a perfectly working DVD on my hard drive. Because neither Prassi nor Gear will accept most IFOEdit modified DVDs, I've been creating images in IFOEdit and burning them with Prassi. Well, this latest time, the disc was reported as an unrecognised format on my PS2, and on my PC, PowerDVD gave an error something along the lines of Unknown file type.

So I repeated the image creation/burning process again and had the same exact same results. ( 3 dollar coasters really suck!)

I then burned the source VIDEO_TS folder with Nero 5.5.7.8 and the resulting disc works perfectly on my PS2. I haven't had a chance to test it in any other players.

I suspect that the image creation tool corrupted the files when it created the image.

So here's my take on the situation.
From previous posts, I think the only reason for creating the image is to allow you to skip the strict DVD compliance tests performed by Gear and Prassi, and to ensure that it is burned in UDF 1.02 ISO. Nero can do this just fine, and it dosen't perform the compliance checks that cause the other applications to fail. The latest version of Nero corrects some DVD problems that previous versions had, so DVDs burned out of nero should have the same compatability of any other application...plus you skip the extra step (and extra possibility to introduce problems) of creating the image.

Just my 2 cents, maybe it can help someone

Derrow knows this problem.
He says that he burn the images with VOB Instant without any problems.
I personally have the same problem with RecordNow Max (that uses the same platform as prassi; prassi was bought of by veritas meanwhile).

Here's somthing I found with the IfoEdit image creation tool. The VTS numbers must be consecutive. For example on Star Wars, I tried to create an image just using VTS_01, VTS_02, VTS_05, VTS_06. The image creation tool stopped building the image after VTS_02. So, I had to rename VTS_05 and VTS_06 to VTS_03 and VTS_04. No big deal renaming them, but the fun part is now you have to modify video_ts.ifo to reference the renamed title sets. You may also need to modify VTS_xx_0.ifo in case one of the menu's has a jump to a particular title set.

Now when I create the image, all VTS's are included in the image file. An easy way to check if you having this problem is to make sure the .img file is as big as all your source files combined.
