Is there a way to change an installed directshow filters merit?
I've turned the registry inside-out without finding anything.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{083863F1-70DE-11d0-BD40-00A0C911CE86}\Instance\{...}\FilterData, 2nd DWORD, reverse byte order.

should be easier than messing in the registry .. ( trying to translate from German Windows 2000 : ) goto 'control panel' , 'sounds and multimedia', 'hardware' , 'audio codecs' , 'properties' and set different priority ...

Well, it's not an audio codec that I want to change. It's a directshow filter and they aren't listed there.
