AC3 playback problems

Hy, I have read all topics regarding AC3\avi playback, but couldn't find an answer. I experience such problem: when playing avi with ac3 I get such results as if my AC3 track has very strong dinamic range control: it's very annoing, because it seems someone stands at my music center and turns down the volume at certain points, where it should be on the contrary. When I load only bare AC3 track - the playback is choppy( it uses inter video audio decoder ( on Bsplayer and Zoom player)), though when I play the same bare AC3track on PowerDVD Xp- everthing is excellent.
My sound card is SoudBlaster live, OS - XP and 98.

So your using SPDIF out I presume? Did you read the Sound Blaster tips in the AC3 FAQ sticky?

Make sure your using Wave Out and not Direct Sound.
