Gordian Knot Error Message

New install of GKnot on a XP box. Gknot was unable to find the DVD2AVI application. Worked around this issue by launching the .exe file on it's own.

However, though the project file has been created, I cannot open it with Gknot. The following error occurs: "Before you can use this you have to put MPEG2DEC.DLL into your GKnot folder!"

Checking the program folder (path=C:\Program Files\GordianKnot), all the files are present.

Ideas?

sounds like you havent installed properly as if it was in the correct place then you wouldnt get a message sayin it wasnt there

I sincerely apologize. I forgot to press the, "I'm not an under 25 year-old blithering idiot button" before posting. :p

I had thought 'user error' may have been a possiblity, so I installed Gordion Knot on two other machines (NT4 & Win98, respectively), as well as un-installing/re-installing on the XP box. The former do not exhibit the same behavior, thought they have similar hard drive schemes.

Therefore, if there is anyone else who can CONTRIBUTE to this thread, please reply to my original post at your convenience.

i wouldnt think it was an XP related issue as many users are running Gordian Knot fine under XP

and please show a little more respect towards mods

Hi,

a friend of mine has exactly the same problem, and we can't figure it out. Several re-installs, checking the registry, diagnosting registry and file access via filemon and regmon, nothing helped.

He's running Win2k.

You could try to insert the program by hand.

Download the right version and insert in the right directory.

Win2k and XP can cause some problems. Did you have administrator authority when you installed GK? Is the folder, subfolders, files marked as hidden? Is your system overclocked (biggest problem)?
If your system is overclocked, set the speed back to where it is supposed to be. If your system is an AMD Athalon XP/MP using the cheaper memory chips, set the FSB back to 100mhz instead of the 133mhz. In either case, after making the changes, format the HD and re-install XP. That will clear up the issues with your registry which is what your problem sounds like.

this definitely has nothing to do with the registry.

maybe the shortcut you are using to launch gknot specifies a different work directory?

Hi,

first, we already solved the problem. The solution though is kinda strange, i still don't know what the problem was.

The program was installed in c:\program files\gordianknot
It worked for a while, but suddenly it didn't. We removed all files, all references in the registry, really everything, and reinstalled it. Didn't work. We did the same again, this time at a different directory (C:\gk). Still didn't work. Then we installed it on a different drive (D:\), and BAM, everything was fine.

Dunno what the problem was, who cares anyway ;)
