Ey, I just testet to transcode an episode of StarTrek TNG Season 1 with TmpgEnc v. 2.01.30.116, and it seems to work perfectly!
I checked the GOP structure of the produced m2v file against with the Original VOB files, and they are absolutly identical.
So Tmpg would be an option now.
I'll go and test this further out, and if it works perfectly, I'll write a guide, how to do so.
But I would be interested to know, if anyone of you can report similar successes with Tmpg.
Maybe someone also can give some suggestions what's missing in IfoEdit for the usage with Tmpg.

pal or ntsc? I think ntsc is much more of a problem because of changing pulldown sequences, 29.97i studio logos and such. And as you may know.. I've had a guide on ifoedit and tmpg for a while though I wouldn't bet on it working in all cases, especially not for complicated ntsc cases (as glenc reported a while back).

Ah yes, you're right Doom.
Indeed, ntsc versions are a kind complicated, because of the 3:2 pulldown.
I totaly forgott about that.
All right. Let's forgett that.

well.. once you can reverse engineer how streamweaver creates vobs from scratch you are golden ;)
I have easter holidays coming up.. should I look into vobedit to remux extras or is it not really ready for primetime?

No, you can give it try. But the remuxing of single cell's doesn't work for all DVDs.
We just exprienced problems on American Pie 2 Region2 version.
If you remux a single cell, then at the beginning of the cell there are green blocks, just like it wasn't encrypted.
I guess the problem is, cause the GOPs are not closed, and using picture information of the last frame in the last cell.

Just for the record, I also did a TMPG (v2.52) transcoding of "The Mexican" (R2) with IfoEdit and it worked perfect on my stand-alone (Pioneer 444). I will go try encoding some more titles and tell you if it worked...

r1, r2, etc are the region codes for the dvd.
ie
1: U.S., Canada, U.S. Territories
2: Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt)
3: Southeast Asia and East Asia (including Hong Kong)
4: Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean
5: Eastern Europe (Former Soviet Union), Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia
6: China
7: Reserved
8: Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.)

I ran into this problem on regular mp2 files. I had to get an mpeg codec from
http://www.vcdhelp.com/vcdtools.htm#codecs
I dont understand why but this allowed me to open mpeg files in project window instead of just in mpeg tools.
hope this helps

@ Derrow
please can you post the right way to transcode the Film with TMPGenc for IFOedit. I try this since many days without success on ALIENS. I dont know what i must adjust in TMPGenc, that the GOP structure is the same how the original. I try many ways, but in the end the GOP structure ist IPBBPBBPBBPBBPB and not IBBPBBPBBPBBPBB. Can you tell me your experience. You can do this also in the german ultimate or amokinside Forum, because i have startet a Thread for this Problem in every Forum.
Thanx Speedy

There are some movies that this does not work with. I believe it is to do with the different ways that ifoedit and dvd2avi parses the files, resulting in a difference in the number of frames between the two programs.
I did report on this problem a while ago, but it doesn't seem to have been resolved.
