--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I downloaded the DVD test files and managed to create a DVD that plays in my set top box using this VIDEO_TS file and RecordNow Max. I used both methods (burn using VIDEO_TS as a data disc and burn as an image file (*.img).

I noticed that the VIDEO_TS file when opened for the first time in IfoEdit, when you hit Create Image the program appears to correct the sector addresses. In the Copy DVD 1:1 guide for splitting a DVD into 2 DVD-Rs it says to correct the VTS addresses before the image step.

Can this step be skipped, should this step be skipped or does it not matter?

If I can copy the VIDEO_TS test file as a data disc and get it to play in my set top box should I assume that after I correct the VTS addresses (in my project) I will not have to image the file to get it to play in the set top box ?

As far as I know IfoEdit 0.9 will automatically get vts sectors when you hit the disc image button, I think Derrow did it to help us people with bad memories avoid producing so many coasters:)

In order to get the disc image feature to work you need to do a few thinks before hitting the button. Firstly place all of the dvd files in a folder called VIDEO_TS and place this folder into another folder on the root of your hard drive. Don't use any spaces in the name of your folder as this will make the next step difficult.

So for instance assume we are making a backup of Pearl Harbour; create a folder on your hard drive and call it pearl for simplicity, inside the pearl folder place a folder called VIDEO_TS which contains all your final dvd files, also make another folder inside the pearl folder called AUDIO_TS. The AUDIO_TS will be empty but is needed for playback to work on some set top players.

Now we have our pearl folder which contains two folders called AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS, next open a command prompt (dos window) and type subst z: c:\pearl (substitute c: with the drive letter of your hard drive).

This creates a virtual drive that you will select as your source drive when you open disc image in IfoEdit, all that remains is to choose a location for the finished image file and type the title for your dvd.

Once the disc image is made you should have no problem burning it with your burning software and hopefully it will play back perfectly on your set top.

When you are all done you can delete the virtual drive by opening a command prompt and typing subst z: /d

See if you find my posting an easier way to create an image file. I have no problems yet http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16821
