I searched deeper on doom9.org and found a "document overview page" which I didn't see before, which is VERY helpful, so I'm scrolling down, and I see "subtitles" then "VobSub guide - how to use the VobSub plugin in VirtualDub"

this guide sounds koo, but I'm wondering about this part, and does it work with SVCD files

"If you want these kind of subs (you can turn them on and off in WMP) then you can remove the VobSub filter from the filter list now. Otherwise leave the filter there and you have the subtitles directly in the video. Leave VirtualDub/Nandub open."

sooo, these aren't permanent subtitles are they? and if I wanted to see subtitles in my dvd player it wouldn't show up either would it?

so now my new question is..... what program should I use to put permanent subtitles on my SVCD file, so that it will show up in my dvd player

I'll give U my avisynth guide....but U should be able to encode SVCD with permanent subs reading Dooms guides:
1) Rip with Samrtripper or Vstrip or DVDdecrypter or whatever
2) Smartripper will tell U what is what (streams)
3) Install and run Vobsub, choose the language
4) Run DVD2AVI ver 1.76,choose track ,convert to wav
5) Read d2v file with Fitcd, copy the script to *.avs(i.e notepad)
6 Run your avs file with WMP2 and see if subs ok, otherwise re-run vobsub and place the subs where U want them
7) Run CCE ver 2.50 or TMPGEnc (with CCE rightclick choose *.avs)
8) Don't encode sound with CCE
9) Encode at least 1 pass VBR
10) Go to sleep
11) Convert wav to mp2 (many freeware progs)
12) Mux and divide with BBmpg

I gave U an ex of avs for 2 days ago, it was for moving the picture a bit above.
Don't ask again.........read the guides
