How do I check the bitrate of mp3 streams in a avi? it was really simple to find out in the old WMP but the new ones dont tell you jack now...(Im using winxp)

also, is there a way to check whether a divx video is encoded in 3.11 or 4.0?

finally, i remeber someone posted a formula awhile ago that let you estimate the bitrate the divx video is encoded. can someone post that? Thank you! :D

Very easy way to tell that - just right-click on a movie file and selecyt Properties, Details and something like Advanced (or similiar) - there you will have all info you need - bitrate of the video, audio, resolution, length and codec used....

You're right Aleksander, but I think it doesn't give the true bitrates when using audio or video variable bitrate.

As i noticed it gives quite accurate info about audio bitrate (even vbr) but not about the image. The most secure way is to use this on a image itself (without audio, before multiplexing) and you should get accurate average bitrate ...

hmm yeah, the video bitrate is definatly not right, im pretty sure this 700 meg 1 hour movie is alot higer than 121kbps :P

Hi,

I've noticed trouble trying to obtain this information in WinXp using the properties tab. Often it gives me no info at all...

Way I get around it is by using a program. My movie database program, DivX Manager .6, tells me the resolution, video and audio bitrates, codec, and length of any avi file. Helps greatly.

As I said - it will give false info if you have your image mulitplexed with the sound. And use Dragoman suggestion - it's a good toy (well...just discovered it :D )
