I have a problem (or two :)) i have d/led a unsubbed avi file in japanese and when i add the subs which i got off a group they are slightly out of sync and they are white.

Is there any way i can change the color and sync it better.

The subs are in .sub format but i wish to make the .smi because i am told you don't need vobsub for .smi they can work directly though wmp; if this is true how do you disable the subs through wmp?

thanx in advance

SubRipper can convert sub to smi. go to 'Output' tab and you'll see 'load as' & 'save as' menu.

(assuming you're using v6.4) turn on VIEW->CAPTION but it's not recommended becuase wmp show smi only in window mode. wmp doesn't display the subtitle in fullscreen mode.

i know how to rip .sub to .smi but the only reason i wanted to do this was because i thought you could get .smi's running in wmp7.1 in fullscreen just like using vobsub (http://www.doom9.org/subtitle_guide.htm> Alternative: Playback in Windows Media Player). Have you tried it in wmp7.1? I'm pretty sure this is how you do it in wmp7.1 view> nowplayingtools> captions ; I'll try this when i go 2 test on my test computers (unfortuanetly this hunk-o-shit can't run DivX).

This still doesn't resolve the issue about editing the colors of subs. When you convert sub files to smi 3.0 and view them in wordpad it says in the header color:yellow instead of something like color:XKCLJX*## for smi2.0's how can i find out the color code 4 smi 2.0's ne1 know??

I don't know why you use .smi ? Try with .srt (or .sub) . All you have to do is to install DirectVobSub 2.09 and it will automatically load subtitle. With in the DVobSub you can change background ,color and size of fonts etc.
As far as I know it works with WMP6.4 and WMP8 so it will probably work with WMP7 (in window and full screen mode).

i'm looking for the perfect compatible choice the 1 that requires the least amount of effort (4 less-knowledgable ppl of course) so naturally i'd try with .smi c what it's limits are then work on that...
