i know that doom9 is trying to use lftp.
i just stumbled across this page http://www.idata.sk/~ondrej/pavuk
it has some pretty nice features, and to me it seems very close to what doom9 was looking for.

I think we've got lftp to work pretty well for now. We use it's reverse-mirror so doom9 just up's to my server and then starts the process that push it to the other servers.
But thanks anyhow, there's never too late to learn about other solutions!
