Hi there.

Before I ask my question please bear in mind that I spend the last 2 hours searching for an answer in this forum. Now for the question:

I have use the guides and made a Maestro project. Have made the movie, audio, subtitles and menus. I don't have DV-R so i want to create mini-DVD's I compiled the project without any problem and has also made an Image-file. Now how do I burn the Image to CD-R. The project is about 3 GB.

Hope you can help - and thanks i advance

You cant burn that image to CD-R mate, CD-Rs only have 645mb Capacity or 700mb if you get 80min Media, the only way your gonna fit that on a CD-R is to dump all the unneccesary bits, and transcode the main movie with a really really low bitrate, in the end itd come out rubbish, so its not worth it.

Other solution is to go for mpeg1. If you reencode the movie to mpeg 1 then you can put more on a CD-R.

Thanks for your answers. I just had an Idear. The DVD Maestro can also make the vob's for the project. Can't I just split up the Vobs, so that they would fit on one CD-r per Vob-file

You could, but you wouldn't be able to play the title from the CDRs - you'd only be able to use them as a means of transporting the data to another harddrive. You'd then have to copy them back to the harddrive for playback to commence. The short answer is that you are not going to be able to create full-resolution DVD titles on one CDR. The only realistic way to ahcieve one CDR playback of a whole film, is to use Div-X (yeuch!!), although it is possible to squeeze a two hour film onto one CDR in MPEG1 format (Standard Interface Format = 352x288 PAL), in which case the DVD format will accept the files (NOT-SO Div-x). You are going to get very poor quality on one CDR, whichever route you take. I sympathise with you because I can't afford an A03 either. However, I am resigned to the fact that I will just have to be patient and wait until I CAN afford an A03 - DVD authoring in decent quality just needs DVDr I'm afraid :(

You can make a 4:3 format "16:9" VCD encoding. It means that you ecode the video as a VCD with 1150 mbs. If you keep the 16:9 resolution then you get a black strype on the top and the buttom. The area needed to be encoded is actually only the halv of the 4:3 area. 1150 with deinterlacing can produce a quite usefull mpeg1. Keep the AC3 sound. You can get >=1h on a CD-R.

Deinterlacing with interpolation can lift up the quality you get with mpeg1. The result is a motionblured movie which is what a film-camera gives you.

Thanks mates for your answers. I guess i just have to use low-quality mpeg1 until I can afford the A03. I spent a lot of time getting to know Maestro - what a waste. By the way is Pioneer A03 the best recorder on the market. Here in Denmark there are a lot of other models that are actually also queit faster.
