this is a common known fact with layer change. Even stand alone dvd players seem to be having problems with layer change and sometimes need to be skipped a little forward in order to continue playing. Assuming the dvd-drives in a pc don't really differ from the ones in standalone players I can imagine this occurs to on a pc

Hi,

again, your dvd drive isn't broken. read this link for more info on layer change. The freeze is made by the dvd-disc, not the player

Hi there!

I know what you mean, and i know that some Dvd-players, even standalone ones, could have problem with layer change....
The picture could freeze for a while, or be needed to skipped forward as you said....
My point is that my dvd canīt change layer at all.
My computer stops, and needs to be rebooted...
When I bought this computer the said I could watch movies on dvd on it, if I need to reboot it after the half of the movie I must say that they havenīt kept what the promised....
If I canīt watch a hole movie without rebooting the computer there must be something wrong with the dvd or, itīs a player thats really not very good...

Windows has never been very good with
removable media. Your DVD player is broken!
Windows can't understand why it can't read
the second layer and crashes!
I have had 2 old DVD drives with this fault
and it pretty much did the same thing..........
If only Microsoft could fix their basic handling
of removable media, rather than rushing out a
new version of windows each year with the same old faults.
