I am having a number of problems trying to burn a DVD that will play in my set top box.

I have a Panasonic DVD-RAM LF-D311 DVD writet and my DVD player is a Sony DVP-NS 700 (this plays DVD-Rs according to tables in vcdhelp.com)

I downloaded Derrow's Test File - Video_TS from his website and am trying to burn it as it is small and am having trouble getting it to work.

A number of questions: Are there any specific using the Panasonic burner I have?
Does the manufacturer of the DVD-Rs have any impact. I purchased generic DVD-Rs as they are $3 each only and the Imation discs are $7.

Should Derrow's test file that is burned be usable in my desktop box as is?

I tried to burn it in Nero 5.5.7.8, Primo DVD 2.0, and Instant VOB version 6.0 according to all tutorials and in each program the program locked up as it was finalizing the writing to disc. I waited more than 10 minutes for each to close but they never did and I had to hit control/alt/delete to shut them down. They did record the file and it played with WinDVD on my PC but not the set top box which said "Cannot play disc" - This is why I wondered if there was any problem with the media per se.

I am very confused about which format to create the DVD in. The new versions of all these programs have different settings than the tutorials. For example in Nero and Instant VOB should I create a Data Disc , a UDF Video DVD, a Data Disc (UDF), or a UDF Video DVD Image?
