Has anyone used the Ridata DVD-R blanks? They can be bought from www.shop4tech.com for 2.99 each in a 25 pack w/free shipping. I've had mixed results from the Princo media and was hoping that the Ridata media was a good alternative.
thanks

I have not tried the Ridata dvd yet but have plans to order some. I have some princo on order and am sad to see that others are having the same problems with them that I am having with the meritline purple ones. Just out of curosity I took one of the purple ones that I have that jumps and locks up near the end of the movie and colored the edge of the dvd with a black magic marker, thinking that the laser was deflecting out the edge of the dvd and was not getting a good reflection, if you look at the edge of the dvd that I have it appears to have some little pits in it, Although it did not correct the problem, it was not nearly as bad about freezing up. I think that if we take some of our coasters and maybe polish the edge with some fine sandpaper and smooth up the edge then maybe that is where the problem with the disk is.
Try some and see what happens.

I found this site selling the DVD-R media for $2.20 and since I found it I have purchased 2 of the 100 packs from them. The quality is great, they are very sturdy and I have not had one fail yet. Play in all standalones I tried and played well in ps2.
Here is the site I found in case anyone would like to know:

Well, I went ahead and ordered 25 of the Ridata discs, so I thought that I'd post an update with what I've seen so far.
Quality and consistency both seem to be acceptable. I've burned 5/5 movies successfully, all of which played back perfectly on my friends Sony standalone (forgot to get the model #) and his 4th generation PS2.
Unfortunatley, I've got a 2nd generation PS2, and every disc had some kind of playback problem. One of the discs would not directly play the main feature, you had to jump in to the 2nd chapter to get it to work, but after that the whole movie played flawlessly. One disc started skipping and pixelating at the very end. The other discs had skipping and pixelating all the way through. It is interesting to note, that my PS2 has no problem with pioneer media. The 2 times that I've used Pioneer media, I've had flawless playback. So that is a pretty good indication that the Ridata media still leaves something to be desired.
I'm going to order 20 of the judysdeals media and report back after I've burned a few movies.

I looked at the $2.20 each for DVD-Rs --- bullshit. The shipping and handling is a ridiculous $13.00 on top of that (I guess they do a lot of "handling").
I still use the DVD-Rs from www.cd-recordable.com. I've had two separate (fairly large) orders from them, both filled and delivered within 3 days with no shipping charges -- and have never had one fail that wasn't MY fault. They have a deal right now for $144 you get 50 4.7G disks, 5 9.4G disk (dual sided), and 55 DVD cases to hold them... I'm planning to order more as soon as I get low.
You hear a lot of opinions on these... but either I am the lucky SOB that always gets the good ones, or other people are creating bad disks and blaming the media.... either way, just thought I'd pass on my experiences...

I just puchased a Pioneer A03 burner and a box of 25 Ridata discs through Shop4Tech. I think $2.99US per disc is a good current price considering that they're branded and come individually packaged in full size jewel cases. The ones I got have a purple dye and although I've only burned a couple of disks so far they both play fine in my year old Apex AD700 and my girl friend's Panasonic RV32 DVD player.
