Hi ppl, i think this is not a hardware question, but maybe is related..........

I have a Soundblaster Live card, and an ActionTec modem........after 10 seconds of playing a game, or listening a mp3 file, the soundcard makes little sounds, like "jumps".............or, the modem, after 5 or 6 minutes disconect......

I saw in the properties window, and both card are sharing the same IRQ.......not only this two cards......the video card, the USB pool and this two cards, all are sharing the irq 7.........

Usually when i had this problems in w9x or in w2k, i could change the irq and memory address, but in wxp, i canīt....all the options are "greyed".......

Does anyone have an idea about, or any clue how to change this settings in Windows XP Pro???.....

Really thanks for your time and answer.

PS
I apologize for my poor english, but i live in Uruguay, a little country in south america, so i speak spanish......

try changing plug n play setting in your m/board's
bios.

where it says PLUG N PLAY AWARE OS = NO

KEEP IT 'NO'

Hope this will solve.

if you really want to change this go to the device-manager (dont know if this is the correct name in english) and change your computer from ACPI-PC to Standard-PC. winxp then uses the irqs as the bios set them.

Thanks for the advice, i will try now, but when did it in W2k, the machine shutdown does not work, it looks like i had an AT power supply............the message "now is safe to turn off the machine appears" because de ACPI function was not active.....
But, in the XP world, who knows......... he he he

Thanks

after you switched to standard-pc you can enable the advanced power management and then the pc shuts down.
