I have a lot of ntsc dvds that where converted from PAL, and whenever i try to encode them with divx they have interlacing artifacts (ugh). when i encode the divx files as mpeg2, the video is perfect. if i encode it to mpeg2 first, then convert the mpeg2 to divx, would it fix the interlacing problem? i don't know enough about video structures to know if this makes any sense, i usually work on trial by error.

ok, it seems that it was a stupid question, its the same video format and converting to divx will produce interlaced video either way. i guess whenever i have this problem i'll make svcds instead.
