View Full Version : Ultra Slow ripping - Ultra High CPU load

Hi!

I ripped Final Fantasy just 1 week ago and all went OK, in the usual 15-20 mins time.

Now I'm trying doing the same with Leon ("The Professional"), a 2 layer DVD.

Now FU are predicting 3-4 hours to complete the copying from DVD to HD, and the CPU load is huge! Tried DVDDecrypter, just to check, and it also is terribly slow.

So, I'have reinstalled ASPI 4.60 Layer with ForceAspi, but nothing change.

The OS is WinXP Pro, the DVD Drive a Pioneer DVD-106.

Any advice will be appreciated, thanx!

Bye!

Check that DMA is enabled on the DVD drive. Also, it might be pertinent to mention any changes you have made to the system.

DMA was the problem! :)
It was a little triky beacause it's the first thing I check, but just some minutes ago I discovered a "break-up" (!) on the IDE flat cable! :( So the drive have to be appeared as disconnected to Windows at a time, and when re-detected it reset the DMA setting.
Err... or this is what I think appened...

Anyway, sorry for my terrible english, and many thanks for the fast reply!

Bye!

So how long would it take to encode a movie 700 - 1400mb file size when using a dual 2000+ mp system? 10 hours?

It depends on your number of encodings but 10 hours or less.

A dual 2000+ AthlonXP rig should be much faster than 10 hours. My TBird 1.333 will do a 2-pass 90 minute job in about 5-6.
