Finally I am pleased to say, thanks to Derrow, that I finally burned a DVDR that was Sony stand-alone compliant last night!

However, I do think (with my machine at least) that it would appear that the media can cause problems; in this case Princo DVD-RW. I have three DVDRW discs, and over the week had made about 5 attempts to copy a particular disc; doing nothing different and burning out of frustration more than anything, the disc did finally copy to a new disc.

The "old" DVDRW were only around 2 weeks old having been copied to about 6/7 times, so not exactly past their shelf-life. Anyone else had any problems of this kind?

Try a full erase on the disk, instead of a quick erase.
It might help.

I've been working with the Princo DVD-R media and found it to be seriously lacking. I use both Gear Pro DVD and Prassi Primo DVD to burn backup movies, and found that only about 40% of the burns will playback on my PS2. It seems to be completely random and points to poor quality control on the part of Princo. Even the discs that do play take a long time to be recognised, and occasionaly skip during playback. Discs burned on Pioneer media work flawlessly *sigh*.

So which did you get to work on the PS2 the DVD-r or the DVD-rw? I have read conflicting stories about whether the dvd-rw works on PS2. I am trying to burn on Memorex dvd-rw so that I dont burn any coasters trying to get it to work. But I am not sure if its the media or me not doing it right. Has anyone burned a backup of just the main movie on a dvd-rw and got it to work on the ps2?

I haven't tried any DVD-RW discs in my playstation, but I remember reading that it won't work, or at least usually dosen't work. Each revision playstation performs differently on playing back burned movies, so the answer probably is, 'it depends'. Maybe someone can give a more definite answer.
