View Full Version : Max bitrate and #of discs when cheating dvd2svcd to convert dvbstreams

i use dvd2svcd to convert dvb-streams recorded with the dvbrecorder via scsi and a dbox1. I use a timer and therefore add ~10minutes to the start and end to be save.

now, i cannot use the pva-mode because it fails for my input file.
i have to rename the dvb-recording to *.vob and then i use a *.ifo from a pal-dvd (which is always the same *.ifo)
This *.ifo reports a lenght of 00:54:02 so ~54 minutes.
The dvdbrecording varies from 60minutes to 120 minutes though and is not in the final shape (means i would have to cut the beginning and the end).

So when dvd2svcd processes this file (using cce), i encounter the problem that:
1.) the max bitrate exceeds (sometimes) the limit to put a movie on two cd's.
i.e. if the ave. bitrate would be ~1600-1700 that would be ok. but sometimes it turns into ~2230 or so.
i already tried to adjust the bitrate/nr. of disc settings in dvd2svcd but it does not really help.
well, i assume that this refers to my "abuse" of dvd2svcd by using that *.ifo file.

2.) automatically bbmpeg muxes and creates output for a couple of cd's.
that means to me that i have to remux audio/video again into _one_ file and then to use tempenc to cut this file proper to get rid of adverisement in the beginnning/end of the recorded movie.

I already tried to cut the recorded dvb-file _before_ using dvd2svcd but both the mpegtools and temgenc refuse to work with that file. however i can open it with mediaplayer (mpeg2 codec installed) and play it.
usally i use pvasinstrumento before to fix defects in the file - just in case)

To work around this, i tried modifying the dvd2svcd project file by changing the bbmpeg setting for maxdiscsize and nr. of discs. right at the beginning when dvd2svcd starts. but it seems that dvd2svcd somehow overrides these settings in the ongoing process.

So in summary:
-How can i define the bitrate being used?
-How can i force bbmpeg to create just one file?
and/or
-Is there any way to make use of the pva option instead?

any ideas?
