I have seen different sizes quoted for dvd-r,-ram,-rw.What is the actual size & can you overburn at all?I Ifo'd Rat Race & stripped everything(even endlogo) exept one audio stream & ended up with 4.71Gb that plays fine on win dvd.Do i really have to re-encode or can i squeeze it on a dvd-r?I don't have my burner yet.

DVD-5 can hold 4.7 million bytes, that's roughly 4.3GB. Remember that 1GB = 1024MB = 1024*1024KB = 1024*1024*1024bytes

There seems to be a lot of missinformation on this subject.Even in doom9's basic guide(under IfoEdit guides)it say's 4.7Gb.And i have seen several ads(CompUsa & the like)that clearly states 4.7Gb for dvd-r blanks.Since the real size is 4.37Gb it seems crucial to me because a LOT of movies fall in the 4.3-4.7 range after stripping the unwanted stuff with Ifo edit, and they have to be reauthored.

could you point out the exact paragraph where you found that 4.7GB? I couldn't find it. I had some wrong size info in the guide when I first wrote it but I thought I had fixed that a long time ago

From main page to The Guides/DVD and miniDVD Guide/IfoEdit guides it reads:

"Basic Guide - last updated 03/01/02
Explains how you reduce the size of a DVD to 4.7GB by stripping unwanted extras, audio streams, subtitle streams and transcoding the video stream and making the disc regionfree."
