I ripped a dvd to another folder, and when i load video_ts.ifo and click on DVD player, I get "DVD warning: Could not open a file on the DVD disk", and after clicking OK, "A file on the DVD disk could not be opened. Playback may not continue" message comes up. I can load and play these dvd files into PowerDVD XP just fine. Why ifoedit dvd player can't play them?

Thx

This strange.
If you haved ripped all files, then this message should not apear.

Well, I think the problem was with missing VIDEO_TS.VOB file. Once I put it in the new dir with stripped files, it stoped complaining. Now, that VIDEO_TS.VOB must be on DVD, or not? In my case, it contains all the FBI warnings and rating stills. How can I get rid of it? I'm just 2MB over the max size of the DVD, and VIDEO_TS.VOB is just over 2MB. If I can removed it somehow, I'm all set. My DVD files are playing fine from HD with ifoedit and powerdvd xp. Can I just make the VIDEO_TS.VOB a dummy 0 bytes file? Or it wont work? Or is it possible to skip it somehow by editing VIDEO_TS.IFO and go directly to main menu, and delete the VOB file completely?

Thx for your help Derrow

The VIDEO_TS.VOB is needed, if there's a reference to it in VIDEO_TS.IFO.

But you can strip out the warnings using IfoEdit and Menu-Extras!
But don't strip everything out. At least on VOB-ID must be left.

And another thing... I also thought I can reduce the size of the VIDEO_TS.VOB file by stripping some of the stills and warnings from it, and keep maybe just one still.. lets say picture rating still. So, when I put my DVD in the dvd player, the rating still would come up and then go directly to menu. I loaded video_ts.ifo file into ifoedit, clicked Menu Extras, then selected all three options (strip VOBids, correct VOB unit, and correct IFO tables.. all three checked), then selected only one VOB that I know contains movie rating still picture, and click on ok, by some reason it only outputs video_ts.ifo and bup files, but not video_ts.vob.. what am i doing wrong??

This happens only if you have stripped every VOB-ID.
But if you selected to keep 1, then there should be a VIDEO_TS.VOB file.
Obviously you didn't forget to specifiy a destination directory, otherwise there haven't IFO files been created.

Hm... I ripped the movie again (with dvd decrypter), and this time when I tried to rip video_ts.vob file, i got 3 files in the output folder - video_ts.vob, ifo and bup.. before I would get only two (no vob file).. maybe my prior rip was messed up or something.. so, it works now :)
What Im also trying to do is to rip just the movie and the main menu... I loaded vts_05 ifo file (its the main movie), clicked VOB extras, and selected to rip streams.. also, selected "create new ifo..", so in the output directory i got all the files with vts_01..
(ifoedit changed them from vts_05 to vts_01). Now, here is my dilemma...What about the vts_05_0.vob, which is the main menu for the
movie? Do I just rename it to vts_01? How can I get the new ripped movie to work with the menu?

Thx again

The option to create new IFOs, is of course for producing a DVD without Menu!

To keep the menu, you don't have the check this last option to create new IFO files.

Use my guide for keeping the menu:

Oh, ok.. now it's making sense... So, I have to uncheck the "create new IFO" option, and after I get my "stripped" vts_05... files, I just copy them back and overwrite the original ones, right? Then, I can probably delete some other vts files, since they are extras and stuff.. then run "Get VTS Sectors", and after that create image, right?

Right so far, except I never overwrite the original files!
I copy every thing that's needed to the destination drive, so if something went wrong cause I check a wrong option or so, I'm always able to redo my steps.

And when my DVD-RW finaly is working in my settop player, then I delete the original files. Until then they stay untouched, and for all case I 'write-protect' them.

Damn! I just got the same problem again: When I try to strip video_ts.vob from some of the stills, I only get two files in the output folder : video_ts.ifo and bup... It was working this morning! How strange...

How big is this VOB file? Maybe I can DL it.

The file is small... only 1.8MB.. it's from Sexy Beast DVD. I already burned DVD successfully without ripping this file. But I still puzzled as to why it wouldnt rip the file sometime... Do u want me to attach the file?

Derrow

yes, including the VIDEO_TS.IFO, then I would check out why sometimes the stripping fails.

That would be great.

I tried to attach files, but looks like the forum pages crash on me.. can I email them to u? or ICQ?
