View Full Version : XviD creates a video with a touch of green?

hi,
I've compared 2 movies, a DivX5 Pro and XviD!
What I've seen didnt make me happy about XviD:
Both XviD's movies has a touch of green. So, if u look at a face at DivX5 it looks much, much more like the original DVD!
But XviD shows all eg. faces with a touc of green, and not just the faces!
Well, is that a prob of the codec, a prob of the player (PowerDivX) or another prob?

You give us way too little details to make any qualified statement on the problem. You haven't started encoding yesterday, have you? So you ought to know what details I'm asking for.

oh sorry!
but I have installed the latest XviD at the moment, so I dont know, which version I've used!
But u'r right! maybe these problems are solved in that latest version now! (i hope ;))

What fourcc was your xvid movie? I noticed some very nasty though slight green and sometimes pink (urgh!) "blobs" when I used divx fourcc instead of xvid. It looked very much like someone holds a magnet next to the screen.
The avi gets played back by the DivX5 filter that seems not to like XviD-encoded stuff sometimes. When I changed the fourcc to xvid everything was fine again and the video looked much sharper anyway. The DivX5 playback filter looks very blurry to me anyway. Maybe because it tries to hide some faults of the DivX5 encoder... ;)

Supplying us a clip of this "green-ing" effect would also be useful.....

HI!
I think i have this "green problem" too on peoples face but most on other things. It seems that i only get this green small blocks on some movies only.I dont know really which build it was, but i encoded The Matrix a couple of weeks ago and there i have some "bad frames".4 cc was set to xvid(double checked) and i use H:263 thats what i remember.
I will upload 4 jpeg and you need too zoom on some pic to see the bad blocks.
EDIT:Can any moderator allow my upload

did u take these pics using vdub? if yes, how? (clipboard/screen capture etc). can u post the respective original pics and divx pics?
does it happen thoughout the whole clip or just at specific scenes/frames?
-avi
I've seen this before, but it only happened in a single compile that I was messing around with asm for - it's never happened since.
Never tracked down what was doing it, I just knew that it wasn't happening in CVS, so I forgot about it :)

And you need to zoomup some of the picture.
