I recently figuired out my Pioneer DV-C302D could do some odd XVCD formats.

I have sucessfully recorded and played back 720-480 MPEG2
1300 Kbps files burned with Nero as standard VCD.

I was curious with so many options out there to try
if anyone else a really good formula to work with.
I think I am going a little crazy trying and thinking
up differant options and formats.

I mainly am concerned with turning my machine into a
Tivo type box with the option of burning the files to CDR.
I'm recording with Power VCR II with a Avermedia TV Studio Card.

ok ready?

I've had TONS of experience with X(S)VCD's and I can tell you they are a pain in the ass to learn, but I'll tell you all my mistakes.

First of all, 720x480, mpeg-2, 29.97, or 23.976 with 29.97 riff headers. Make that file.
Do not go over a REAL CD's size., the X(S)VCD's at 795mg do not fit onto a CD-R, only 700meg files.
So encode using CCESP or TMPEG do not go over 700meg's.

Use tmpeg's multiplexor and use mpg-2 program stream, not mpeg-2 SVCD stream to mplex your mp2 and mpv/m2v. This way you can use Nero SVCD burning and it won't give you crap! :)

Aslo, most DVD players can go WAY above the gay 2600Kbps discussed all over creation. Mine can go up to 7500Kbps, I've tested it... he he. Go to VCDHELP.com and look up your DVD player and see what people ahve to say about it. Most liky if you want to turn your comp into a tivo, just use CBR at like 3000Kbps. That should fit like two episodes onto a 700mb disk, and you won't have to waste your time with vbr because 300Kbps is pretty high by itself.
