I know that those lucky MAC people with QT Pro can export to a DVD compliant file.
But how can I convert one using the high quality CCE encoder?
Lots of things to consider that I am unfamiliar with:
1) Most are 480x272 or 480x260 and look like they are going for that widescreen look. How would these be resized? Should they maybe be resized for DVD and add some black bars?
2) I know there is a TMPGEnc plugin for Quicktime, but what settings do I use to get a compliant DVD file and again should those black bars be added.
Doom9 - this would make a great guide. Know lots of people who would like to take those cool Star Wars trailers and put them on a DVD to view on that big screen tv :)\
BTW - yes, did a search and could not find anything on this.

you can import the files into Premiere and then export it directly to the CCE plugin, best bet for those is to resize them to 720xwhatever, then letterbox it out to 720x480/576

I understand that Premieres resize function is not that good. I would prefer a method that maybe allows me to use the Smart Reszie filter by Donald Graft via avisynth scripts. Just not sure how this can be accomplished.
Also isn't resizing it too much (480 -> 720) going to give it a stretched look?
Also in terms of resizing 480 to 720 is 1.5 times its original size. So to make the height compatiable and retain aspect, I assume I would multiple the height by 1.5 as well. For example in 480x272, the 272 would now become 272x1.5=408 and my resolution should then be 720x408 which I believe is still DVD compatible. However since I am 72 pixels off the standard DVD height of 480, then I assume you mean I could add black bars of 36 pixels on top and bottom to then make it standard 480. Is this assumption correct?

yup, you assumed correct.
if you want to use a different program to resize, then you can export the clip from premiere in the old size still, then use another program to resize it as you'd like.

Thanks auenf
Export - That one was sure right in front of my face!
Thanks will export from Premiere, use VirtualDub to resize, then encode using CCE.
Couple more questions
1) Can I add black bars with VirtualDub? I know that it has cropping but not sure about adding letterbox.
2) Also I thought that some said that encoding to MPEG2 with letterbox is a waste and not a good idea. If this is true, then how does one get it letterboxed with black bars for DVD, yet not add them before encoding??

black bars dont take up very much bitrate at all, you wont notice the file size difference.
the only way around it would be to make it animorphic (horizontally compressed, ie for PAL: 1024x576 widescreen is squeezed into 720x576 in the stream), but that would increase the required mpeg-2 bitrate.
VirtualDub does do letterboxxing, you can see that option in the normal resize filter.

Hello!
And if the Quicktime trailer like Monsters Inc is copyprotected! How do I remove the copyprotection?
