1- NO
2- YES, ranges from NO Problem to total failure and depends on the type of DVD-ROM inside.
3- SHIT, not worth spending money for. This is my personal opinion. I use exclusively Apple/Pioneer, they play on every Standalone (I tested so far, ~50) which accepts DVD-R in general.

I'm using Princos, and when I think that all works fine, I have a surprise when play some off my backups.
In the beginning is all ok, but after a few chapters, in about 70 % of my backups the film starts to freeze, it happens in my standalone (Loewe) and in another ones (Nintaus, Philips, Sony).
I think that maybe the problem is on Princo or on my burning program.
I have the images of my backups on my HD, and I try to burn another time the ones that give me problems in some cases all becomes fine.
So I try to have some conclusion on that.

Perhaps mikeathome can tell us how is make the backups and the programs used.
My system : PIV2.0A, Asus P4E, Pioneer A03, DVD-Rom Hitachi 2500B, XP Pro.
Programs used : DVDDecrypter to RIP, Vobraptor, IfoEdit, and Instant Vob to burn.
What do you think about Instant Vob mikeathome, ?
Do I should use disc at once or track at once when burning images ?

Thanks.
P.S. - Does anybody have a good site when we can buy Pioneer or Aples media at good price, shipping to Europe ?

From experience I think you're asking for trouble using VOB to burn your DVDs. Prassi PrimoDVD seems to be the tool of choice for most Pioneer A03 owners.

easy2Bcheesy,

Do you use Prassi PrimoDVD to burn image files.
I only use Instant VOB because that has the program that came in Pioneer.
What program do you use and what are your settings ?
Are you using Princos ?

The best pricing I've found so far is $24.99 for thw Apple DVDR 5 pack. Depending where you live sales tax and or shipping will also apply.

You can try these links:

Hi freaks,

My System Setup:

- Abit KT7 RAID (Promise), Duron 650 (this is only the burner PC ;-)
- 16GB HD (4+12) Win2k SP2
- 30GIG WD NTFS5
- 100MBIT Realtek
- CD-ROM Noname
- Pioneer A03 Secondary IDE Slave (together with WD HD)

Settings:
Pioneer set to PIO Mode 4 in Win2k OS (not in BIOS), the Master Harddisk on this IDE port still runs UDMA (~16MB/s avg.). It holds the Video Content for Authoring. This Harddisk is a removable. I can't afford Maestro :-(
Burning done ALWAYS from the IDE Port 1 Harddisk Extended Partition

Authoring:
Maestro 2.9 b2915a. The latest official released.

Burning:
Prassi PrimoDVD with latest PxEngine update.

I always compile a Video_TS / Audio_TS folder. And burn that with PrimoDVD in DATA mode (no settings touched !).
I exclusively use Apple/Pioneer DVD-R (+2 Memorex, they fine as well, came with the burner) and Verbatim DVD-RW. I did ~50 so far and not a single went wrong. They ALL run on my Noname Standalone (Yamakawa 713) and on all Pioneer Standalone Player I tested so far. Toshiba is fine as well.
I get the Apple DVD-R from Appleshop via telefone. Germany Tel. 08002000136. They come from Ireland within 1 day !!! Absolute Spitze.

I deleted the one and only Verbatim DVD-RW now ~10 times using quick mode. I did not delete it the first time completely. It's just fine and plays on the Pioneer Standalones perfect.

I do not see the need to change anything from this procedure apart from the fact, that I am might loose the Maestro authoring facility, since SpruceTech is going to give up PC support. They started to behave like this after they were aquired by Apple. I heared rumours that already Version 3 won't support PC anymore. In this case we might change to a new system (don't know what). Then I loose Maestro :-(((((. I'll go and purchase Pinnacle Impression DVD Pro for me privately. It's about to become really compareable to Maestro in function and user friendlyness BUT not costwise (~$500).

P.S.
I forgot to mention, I don't use IfoEdit. Why, ok, it takes about the same time (for me) to redo a menusystem in Maestro using the original content from DVD. Chapters is an easy job with ChapterExtractor.
You don't believe me, ok, I had some bad fails with IfoEdit first, so checking and changing takes time as well. I don't start burning before PrimoDVD does accept the project !
Second, most of the new titles require re-encoding. I always use CCESP. So, IfoEdit is not of help for those titles.
Third, I do learn with every project a little more and became real fast when it comes to consider options for menus etc.
4'th, I like working with Maestro, for me it's real fun.

Last but not least, I feal good about the fact, that all my compiles went ok so far, you hear me knocking on wood this time...
