divx file * .sub as source for avisynth?

Hi I wanted to convert my divx file (avi) to an MPG file. I've been doing this successfully with TMPGENC. But now I'm upto my divx files with the *.sub files. I don't know how to get TMPGENC to display the subs.

I thought maybe I can use AVISYNTH as something like a wrapper and use the *.AVI & the *.SUB files as my source and get TMPGENC to open that?

hmm I am confused now.
