I've heard one of the biggest issues with DIVX4 was its lack of detail. After my first testing with DIVX5, I'd have to say that issue is gone. The detail improvement is phenomenal, in my opinion. I dont think SBC holds water any more, except perhaps file size predictability.
Check out the results from my first test (Fifth Element DVD) here:
DIVX 4.12 at 1400kbits(.273 b/(p*f)) (slowest)
vs
DIVX 5 at 1400kbits (slowest, gmc, qpel, b-frames)
DIVX4 Versus DIVX5 Detail (http://67.113.89.179/divx5.jpg)
The detail in the mouth, cheek, bridge of the nose, and the hair, really are phenomenally improved.
----
I'm quite happy with it so far, except for the occasional ugly-ass frame that it spits out when b-frames are on. For my purposes I dont think i'll be using it.
