View Full Version : Bad trip with Divx 5

I encoded yesterday Fight Club with Divx 5.0 Pro and I had VERY bad results... Not in quality, but in encoding time and also when playing the final video.
I chose 2 pass @ 1200 kbps (for 2 cd) with Qpel, GMC and Bidirectional. It took more than 12 hours to perform the task ! (I have a Duron 750, 512 Mo and a Radeon VE) This is a lot slower than with divx 4, but I know all these options are not designed for speed increase, but for "ultimate" quality. Nevermind, I launched the movie and the nightmare began : the video is really slow and it crashes all the players (WMP, BSplayer and the player 2.0). Ok, the quality is fine...
I am only concerned of playing the video right now. Are the options (Qpel, GMC and Bidirectional) supposed to slow down the playing speed? Is my machine not powerful enough to play divx 5 with all options?
As I really wanted to encode Fight Club (and to be able to play it :-)), I uninstall divx 5 and reinstalled divx 4 and I had a lot of funny errors (if you dare take a look at http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19516)
Or is divx 5 crap and unstable?

Hi,

I'm running an 800 Thunderbird with 448MB ram and have had no problems encoding or playing divX5 encoded content.

In the start menu, go to DivX5:Decoding Configuration. Move the slider all the way up. I was having similar problems to yours and this fixed them (encoded with the same options, except no quarter pixel).

I don't think it fixes the pb. Bidirectional seems to be the key... Without any option, hopefully, it's ok! But there's no use for that compare to divx 4 !
