sbc and new divx operates in different way in 2-pass encoding

sbc use a fixed drf in the first pass, then gives you a variable output size that you can use to know what bitrate to use in 2nd pass,
that is to decide if go for one or 2 cd.
i am used to divide that size per 2 to get an hint on what size one movie will be ,presumabily very good.

divx5 requires to input the bitrate already in the first pass,
and i dont like it! i feel like lost.

really i think that the first pass should be quality(fixed quantizer)based,
then you can choose if go for one or two CD.

i even changed the default 1st pass vcf forcing to use drf4 in 1st pass,
to get that i think is a reference bitrate to well encode a movie with.

i would like that ppl of divx5 change the way their 1st pass works.

The developers did the 2-pass like they, because that's how their product line works. DivX3 is a completely different product. So don't expect them to change it soon, maybe not ever.

If you want a more sensible 1st pass, use XviD :)
