Greetings

Has anyone else noticed that? After installing the free ( not the pro stuff ) version of DivX 5.0 the playback of the XviD directshow filter is'nt filtered anymore :( It's only visible if you go to full screen. You see very much yagging on diagonal edges.
The only working function is brightness. And in the middle (standard) position the picture is way too bright.
Well, i've uninstalled that unfinished thingie and returned to 4.12 because i prefer XviD. Now the XviD directshow filter works again as usual :)
Just want to know, if somebody else has noticed this.

Had the same problem and i removed DivX5, either, because somehow I like XviD much more...although I waited for DivX5 and thought that it would become the big deal. I'm looking forward to the next "bugfix"-release of DivX5 and then give it a new try, but maybe I'll concentrate on XviD which will improve in the near future even more I guess... *hopefully*

Well, i can't confirm you guys problems.
I already tried to see my xvid encodings, with divx5 installed and then uninstalled, and the quality didn't changed.
The only problem i had with the xvid ds filter was created because i was using a P2-350 comp, which is too damn slow to play the avi's correctly.

Maybe anyone else could care to post his/here experiences?

I have had the plain and the ad-pro on my system and playback is fine. Of course I have a relatively clean system.

Thanks @all for reply...

Maybe it's the order, in wich the codecs are installed.
Or it's Huffy (on my system), as someone said, don't know...

Just detected, that the XviD-DS-filter also decodes 'divx' and 'DIVX' Fourcc codes... Hmmmh... Maybe that's why the DivX 5 gets pissed...

BTW: I have a Thunderbird 1.4, Geforce 2 GTS Pro (latest driver), 512 MB DDR, running Win98SE.

1. You search inside of the register "OpenDivX Decoder Filter"
2. The references in "FilterData" you must change all not divx, div5 or div6 expressions for divx or DIVX.

After uninstall of DivX 5 (std) and uninstall of XviD, i reinstalled the 'pro' version of DivX 5, modified the FilterData to not play DivX 3 content ( BTW: worked great on Win98SE ) and after that i reinstalled XviD. Same again, XviD content is'nt filtered anymore. Instead it is played by VFW with the xvid.dll. Only way to get filtering, is uninstall of DivX 5. No probs with DivX 4.12 :(

A special question to Nic:
Why is it, that the Xvid-DS-Filter is always the last in the chain after the video renderer, where the DivX 3,4,5 are always the second in the chain, way before the video renderer

Because XviD is so much better than the other decoders, :)
Im assuminng that you have the overlay filters loaded or some other type of filters when using DivX3/4/5

Well, XviD can change its colorspace internally to whatever is needed.... :)

(Overlays/avi decompressor after the decoder can really degrade the quality of video, DivX4 looks crap on my Win98SE machine, but really good on my Win2000 (same hardware))

Cheers,
-Nic

ps
Is there any advantage in having the DivX5 decoder installed? I was just wondering if we should switch back to having 4.12 decoder....just a thought :)

Now i have a working solution:
If i use BSPlayer the XviD-DS-filter kicks in correctly and the output gets properly filtered :)
I noticed another side effect of DivX 5:
With DivX 5 installed, mediaplayer is'nt able to play Mpeg2 files anymore ( i have WinDVD 3.0 installed ), it is looking for a codec
Without DivX 5 installed mediaplayer uses correctly the intervideo filters and plays Mpeg2 files fine... weird...
WTF has DivX 5 to do with Mpeg2
...anyway...

I have an issue with AviSynth frame serving/filtering/resizing when Divx5 is installed. It would periodically crashed and will not allow me to use DirectShow filter option to open my AVI file. If I am frameserving to VirtualDub, then VirtualDub would immediately crashed. Playing back Xvid clip using DivX5 filter is much better over the Divx4.12; However, speed and quality, Nic's xvid DS filter is way better.

I currently use DirectShowResizer along with Nic's xvid filter to playback xvid captured clips, and I like what I see :D
