Hey guys, howcome when I try to run msconfig and turn off the gain.exe or whatever it is, it's not there. And frankly it has never came up on my system, other than the fact that the installer says that it is installing it, i never see anything else of it. No popups when i surf, nothing. I'm surely not complaining, but at the same time i am still kind of wondering how this is? Any thoughts?

It is either gain_trickler_3102, or CMEsys. Both of these are the gator spyware.:stupid:

the best way is to scan the register for any spy ware related keys (with adaware) and null out the start values.. this will fool the divx codec to think the spy shit is installed but the spy ware programs will never start beacause the paths are not correct.... :)

when using msconfig look out for "Trickler" (at least in win98se)
this way, it won't start at boot-up

I have divx pro now installed on 2 computers. One had trickler, the other doesn't and never did. I didn't delete or modify the files or registry in any way.

Welcome to Doom9 JeLlYfIsH!

Have you restarted since installing Divx 5?

In addition to turning it off in MSCONFIG, I deleted the Gain executable and everything works just fine.

i disabled gain and that cme stuff in msconfig, and divx didn't yell at me until the start of the second pass. i went to reenable it in msconfig, and cme was still there, but g...exe or whatever it is was gone. so I downloaded ZoneAlarm to block it. does that nulling the registry stuff work?

Gain is really Web3000. Follow the instructions for Removing Web3000 at the following site:

Oh yeah i have restarted several times (windows xp has me restarting frequently), and i have looked in msconfig, but have seen not a trace of it in there.
