I've read that q-pel reduces macroblocking alot, but looking at some people's codec comparisons they've been leaving it off. Are there any negatives effects using it?
Thanks,

P.S I've been collecting some feedback/info on the codec options from a couple of BBSs and taking rough notes, are these correct?

Use qpel for 1 cd rips (supposeldy works best at 1/4 res), b-frames for smaller size (but slower encode) and gmc

don't bother with the inbuilt crop, resize, deinterlace etc features, just use whatever you did before

psychovisual is still buggy so leave if off for reliable rip

use post processing casually for noisy films (personal preferance)

update-gmc can cause squares in high motion scenes, use at own risk
