I'm quite curious as to what bitrates people are encoding video content with mpeg4.
My understanding of mpeg4 is that it is optimized for lower bitrate applications. When you compare mpeg4 to mpeg2 (same resolution and framerate), mpeg4 outperforms mpeg2 (for visual quality) at bitrates of less than around 1 megabit, and mpeg2 outperforms mpeg4 at bitrates in excess of around 1.5-1.75 megabit (mostly due to overhead). In between it's about a tie.
What are your experiences with this?
