View Full Version : Request for Subtitle Feature

:) Hi DVD2SVCD

I want to make a request for the Subtitle-Feature. I donīt know how the other people use the SVCD-Feature, but for my part i just need two Subtitles, normally the original and one in my mother tongue! My Request is, why donīt use the other possible Subtitles to reach more DVD-Players? I have a Cyberhome ADM-512 and I couldnīt ever see these IAuthor Subtitles. I was making theses SVCDīs and was very frustrated until one of my friends who had an Cyberhome ADL-528 said to me, your Subtitles in your SVCD`s are really great! Hm I couldnīt believe my Eyes, it was just my DVD-Player and not the way I made the Subtitles whith Iauthor! Then one day you decided to involve this great Submuxer program and from that day on I could look to these fabulous SVCD-Style Subtitles. But now my Friend said, "what did you do with the Subtitles? I canīt see them anymore!

So I realized that it would be a nice Feature, if you could also Implement that the same Subtitles will be submuxed in CVD and SVCD-Style but only on different Streams! So these SVCDīs would be more compliant to a bigger number of different DVD-Players!

Maybe it is a good idea, maybe itīs not!

Okay bye and thanks

Chief Earl

Yep, that's what I'm saying...
I've got a player here that's able to display subtitles when playing back SVCDs, but only the ones from the good old days when you supported I-Author - guess that's CVD standard then, isn't it?
Now I tried both CVD and SVCD selections in d2s107b4 and below, but I cannot see any subtitles.

What has happened? DVD2SVCD, have you got an explanation for this? I wouldn't want to switch back to an early version of d2s just for these goddamned cvd subs.

Surely you are not using the new version:rolleyes: It already has Iauthor option at "cdimage" tab.

So, are you talking of 107b4 or some future version to come?

@ Chief_Earl:
If I understand correctly, you say that your friend's AD-L528 can show I-Author type subs?
To my knowledge, and to the Cyberhome help forum's (Found here: http://forum.cyberhome-help.de/viewtopic.php?t=74 ) that is not so.
The AD-L528 cannot show any kind of selectable subtitles.
If however it is so :) me and many other 528 owners would very much like further details.
Please contact me or that forum.
Thank you

Well, some encoding phases later, I can tell you that subs don't work at all when created using VCDXBUILD - if you do use VCDImage, everything works fine, but you will not be able to display titlepix and changecdpix. That's the tradeoff.
Still doing further investigation there.

I too have this strange acting sub-problem.
When i choose to use VCDXBUILD it dosn't matter if I choose SVCD or CVD, there is no text (I think CVD works when I dont have chapters activated, but i am not quite sure.....)
BUT if I choose I-Author all theese thing works, but some of the movies behave strangely (dont stop at the end, but start from the beginning etc..)
When I use I-Author/CDmage.exe and get me som CUE/BIN it looks/works better/ close to perfect :)

BUT I am not sure if this is a good choice...
What if i choose to bye me a new DVD player (will have to come someday), and all my movies are with CVD text.....

I am thinking of just using permanent subs. This way i wouldn't matter what kind of subs my evenually new DVD would like....the biggest drawback (for me) is that this kind of subs seems kind of blurry to me.

Anyone know if this could be fixed/ better ??
Any thougths ??

What version of D2S are you using?
THe latest I have installed is 107b4, but it does not show I-author as an option for creating subs.

@Kryzzle

I haven't updated to the 1.0.7 B4 yet because of some testing I am doing, but I can confirm that 1.0.7 B3 does have the option to select I-Author under the "CD Image" tab.

I use ver 1.0.7.b4, and I choose I-Author under the CD-Image tab.

EDIT: Need to have I-Author installed first to have this working..;)

@mwolfman
If you use IAuthor you get .cif. You can convert them to bin/cue with CDmage. Or you can use VCDXBuild or VCDImager, so you get bin/cue without converting it.

i cant believe its`s a problem of the author programm or burn prog.
cause the subs are already intergrared in the image...
try the "foolproof way to burn a svcddisc" like explained in this forum...

You can also burn you bin/cue with Nero, just don't make new SVCD, go 'file', 'burn image' to burn them.
There are many people out there having problems with Nero, but if it works for you, you can use it of course.

I have APEX AD703 and I have the same result as Kryzzle, the VCDXBUILD
will not work but VCDImage will work with subtitle. I can live without "title picture" and "changeCD pic" but not happy if without "DVD chapters", the VCDImage will not work on "DVD chapters".

If subtitle works with VCDImage, why can't it work with VCDXBUILD?

Is there a bug on the DVD2SVCD program or these are the limitation of the VCDBUILD and VCDImage?
I noticed there are a lot of people having problem with the subtitles, can DVD2SVCD explain this in more detail or fix the problem?

Thanks
