Last time I used DVD2SVCD was version 1.0.6 r3 I believe, and I 2 days ago I updated to 1.0.7. r 3. Happily I did a rip of Perl Harbor, all went fine and after 22(!) hours I had my 3 CD's as bin/cue files. I just burned the as usual using NERO, but when I put the disk into my SVCD only player it starts reading it as SVCD but after 1 second it switches to VCD 1.1, the result is nothing, nada. :(
I used VCD Imager as usual to create the images.
Rip info:
1 Audio
2 Subs

Any ideas?

I don't have any ideas at the moment, mainly because i dont have much information to go on. If you could Explain your settings that you have selected, also post your dvd2vscd log file, the avisynth script would not hurt either. What verson of nero are you using? Also with nero you have to burn the files a certain way..which way might you being doing?...

I don't want to start a rumor, but I think I saw a post on UseNet the other day from Dr. Mercury saying something about the latest Nero burning disks that started to play and then went bam. Let's try to check this. If you could use vcdeasy (using cdrdao) to burn your disk and check it it would be helpful.

Edit: Or, better yet, use Daemon tools(everybody should have this that does encodes) and load the bin/cue into the virtual cdrom it creates. THEN use nero to do a simple disk copy from the virtual cdrom to your burner.

Edit: See this thread

Fireburner is NOT recommended for burning as it can screw around woth your data.
I use the Excellent Deamon Tools and the burn the virtual image with diskjuggler ( i dont like nero for svcd's).

I use Nero all the time and never have a problem burning a cue/bin. It works fine with the latest 1.0.7.4 build on my computer.

I just rip Shrek and The One without problem. I use VCDBuild (include) to create the image file.

Alternate software which work very well as well is CDRWIN.

Is this true about fireburner i have used it on at least 15 copies without any problems at all, not one of the discs burned has errored or failed, and the resulting burn plays perfectly in my home dvd player....just curious to know what problems have arisen from fireburner.
Thanks

hi folks,

i -always- use the latest nero-build for burning -anything-.
using the internal vcdxbuild (no chapters) and nero, the svcds start playing in my cyberhome ad-l528, but they will stop at a certain point. windvd 3.0 claims they are vcd 1.1 and powerdvd 4.0 refuses them completely.

but: adding the bbmpeg-file to a nero-svcd-project results in a working svcd. now windvd 3.0 recognizes a svcd and powerdvd 4.0 plays the movie, too.

strange, isn't it?

i think these stopping-points are caused to some chapter-info, though i didn't selected any chaptering.

@dobber2000

I used to use fireburner at 4X to burn the bin/cue files. The burned discs would play perfectly in my standalone DVD player, for a week or 2 or 3. Then they would start showing macroblocks toward the end of the disc and at some point, they would become unusable.

At first I blamed the blanks I was using, but after trying a different brand and still having problems, I decided it was something different. I then tried the method DDogg suggested (Daemon Tools) and have yet to have a problem with any of the discs I have burnt.

I just ripped Pearl Harbor PAL version yesterday and it was successful. Settings were DVD2SVCD 1.0.7 b4, 2 audio at 112 kbps each, 1 subtitile, 3 800 Mb CDs, CCE SP 2.50 with CBR (I know it is worse but at 0.315 is the only reasonable setting to sleep without the noise of the PC around, it took from 8.30 am to 11.30 pm).
I burned everything with CDRWIN with one click and it worked very fine...
The only problem I have is that subtitles don't work in my Mustek 560 standalone player... I have to investigate..
The result in terms of quality is very good also, even if CBR.. I watched some little pieces with fast actions (the most critical ones with CBR I guess..) and it looks very fine IMHO.

Greetings.

@WhOOps: Fireburner IS recommendet by the author of DVD2SVCD himself.

btw, i always use nero with the latest update to burn those images, maybe nero isnīt recommendet for creating svcdīs, but to burn cue/binīs there should be no problem (if you have the latest update)

Just to add another option: I use cdrdao with the XDuplicator front end. They have always worked fine for me and they are free.
