Well I could do that...

Hmmm I wonder how hard it would be to code such...

Dg is correct, nothing really exists for that. Currently I'm using PowerDivx4 for to playback AC3. Perhaps PowerDivx 3.12 will work as well.

@Snollygoster

I can't unfortunately. You are more than welcome to apply at www.powerdivx.com to become a beta tester.

i got a copy of this plugin online (use google to search for "IN_AC3.DLL" this is how i found it.) if u cant find it, let me know.

ps - i think doom9 should post AAC, Ogg, and AC3 plugins for Winamp (I have and use all three) on his software page.

Some people my find it usefull if someone writes a plugin using azid. I am already fully occupied with HeadAC3he, so...

i know the current ac3 winamp plugin has some limitations. the main drawback is downmixing. it only plays the front two channels i think.

if someone were to make a Winamp Plugin that uses AZID.DLL, how hard would it be to implement Surround Downmixing, and maybe even DRC ??

this would be a *very* handy plugin for us winamp fans. winamp is the best audio player out there.

Version 4 of PowerDivx is moving along nicely. I suspect a public beta might be released in another 3-4 weeks(hopefully). I can tell you that right now in it's alpha state, it plays and seeks AC3's perfectly. Keep your eyes open for it:)

The AC3 input filter for WinAMP (in_ac3.dll) is included in most releases of the good old "AC3DEC" package; unfortunately, it is not available anymore at doom9 (what is AC3DEC compared to Azid...), but you may still find it in the software section of http://dvd.box.sk though. But it is buggy, it usually pops an error message at the end of each AC3 stream (as if it would look for some end-of-file block in AC3 files, which doesn't even exist AFAIK: like MP3, also AC3 just ends at the end-of-file).

I have been using WinampAC3 * for quite some time now without bug.

* WinampAC3 from AC3Filter project (ac3filter.net (http://ac3filter.net)).
